WiiM Takes on Sonos and Bluesound with Amp Ultra: Hi-Res Audio, HDMI ARC, and Full-Home Streaming

WiiM has announced its most powerful and refined streaming amplifier yet, the WiiM Amp Ultra. The WiiM Amp Ultra features an aluminum chassis with a vibrant 3.5-inch color glass touch screen. With its fairly complete feature set and looks, the WiiM Amp Ultra looks set to challenge established names like Sonos and Bluesound.

The new WiiM Amp Ultra is claimed to deliver up to 100 watts per channel into an 8 ohm speaker impedance with extremely low distortion. The WiiM Amp Ultra essentially builds on the feature set of the existing WiiM Amp Pro amplifier and combines it with the premium playback experience of the WiiM Ultra streamer but with more output options for home theater applications.

Like all WiiM products, the Amp Ultra connects seamlessly via the WiiM Home app, enabling whole-home audio control, automatic room correction, multi-room grouping, and access to all major streaming platforms. Users can control their entire setup via the app, voice assistants, or the included WiiM Voice Remote 2, ensuring complete consistency with the company’s existing ecosystem. Regular firmware updates will ensure that the Amp Ultra is future-proofed with new features and improvements, according to the manufacturer.

“The WiiM Amp Ultra reflects the voice of our community,” said Lifeng Zhao, CEO of WiiM. “Our users wanted more power, refinement and connectivity without sacrificing high-fidelity sound, and we listened to that demand. This amplifier is designed for discerning listeners who want to enhance their setup with precision, clarity and smarter connectivity.”

Post-Filter Feedback technology ensures stable, load-independent performance, making the WiiM Amp Ultra ideal for creating immersive sound in a single large room or across multiple zones throughout the home. Whether connecting to a TV for theater-quality audio, streaming playlists during a dinner party, or adding streaming capabilities to classic stereo equipment, the Amp Ultra is a versatile design suitable for a variety of applications, according to the makers.

The WiiM delivers a maximum of 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 200 watts into 4 ohms, capable of driving up to four passive speakers with astonishing clarity and dynamics. Dolby Digital decoding, HDMI ARC, and a dedicated subwoofer output support home theater setups in the living room, while a 32-bit/384kHz-capable ESS ES9039Q2M Sabre DAC chip, dual TI TPA3255 Class D amplifier chips, and six TI OPA1612 operational amplifiers ensure ultra-low distortion and rich, detailed sound when listening to music, according to the designers.

After testing the capabilities of the WiiM Ultra streamer, the company reportedly decided to also utilize the 3.5-inch glass touchscreen for an integrated amplifier. The proven interface offers intuitive playback controls, input switching, EQ settings, queue display, custom wallpapers, VU meters, Smart Preset, Recently Played, internet radio and more. It also allows for advanced customization, with easy selection of 24 preset EQ profiles, access to a 10-band graphic and parametric equalizer with input-specific settings, plus built-in room correction that analyzes the acoustics of your room and adjusts the audio output for tonal balance between speakers and subwoofers.

Next-gen connectivity includes WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio, and dual antennas for fast, reliable wireless streaming. Like other WiiM streamers, the new WiiM Amp Ultra supports Google Cast, Alexa Cast, DLNA, Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect, with seamless access to Spotify, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Qobuz and more via the WiiM Home app. Voice control works with Alexa, Google Assistant and the WiiM Voice Remote, which features a built-in microphone and voice activation front end.

The new amplifier also works perfectly with the new WiiM Sound smart speaker and other WiiM streamers, working seamlessly within the wider WiiM ecosystem.

The WiiM Amp Ultra, including the Voice Remote 2, will be available in the third quarter of 2025. Pricing information has not yet been announced.
