Topping ‘s new D50 III desktop DAC has been updated to deliver even better performance than its predecessors. It now features dual ES9039Q2M DAC chips and an XMOS XU-316 USB interface, allowing it to support high-resolution streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz and DSD512. Additionally, it is equipped with the latest generation Qualcomm QCC5125 Bluetooth chip for superior wireless reception. Bluetooth codecs aptX, aptX Adaptative, aptX HD and LDAC are supported. Topping decided to offer the option of operating as a DAC/preamp with volume control, in combination with powered speakers or a power amplifier. The DAC D50 III’s connectivity interface features numerous digital inputs: SPDIF Coaxial, Toslin Optical and USB-C. Outputs include a balanced 6.35mm TRS jack and an RCA output. Finally, the attractive display, Bluetooth remote control and 10-band equalization software enhance ease of use.
Topping has developed a 10-band equalizer that allows you to customize many parameters. The software supports importing target curves and saving multiple profiles for quick modification.
The D50 III features one ES9039Q2M D/A converter chip per channel for balanced signal processing. These two DAC chips, combined with the XMOS XU316 USB interface, allow the Topping D50 III to support high-resolution streams up to PCM 32bit 768 kHz and DSD512. The XMOS XU 316 USB interface is accompanied by a Thesycon driver for plug-and-play operation and a high level of compatibility. The I/V conversion stage has also been improved to maximize the performance of the ES9039Q3M DAC chips. Compared to the D50 S, the D50 III chipset has better SNR, dynamic range and distortion.
The output level of the D50 III is adjustable. At the balanced output it is 4 Vrms, at the RCA output it is 2 Vrms, and at the 6.35mm TRS output it is 5 Vrms, at the RCA output it is 2.5 Vrms. Additionally, a preamp mode allows you to use the D50 III DAC with powered speakers or a desktop amplifier.
The D50 III comes with a Bluetooth-enabled remote control. This allows you to control the device remotely for greater ease of use. There is also a 12V trigger on the 3.5mm jack, allowing you to turn multiple devices on and off at the same time. This feature is very convenient if you are using the D50 III in combination with, for example, the company’s A50 III headphone amplifier.
The Topping D50 III’s USB-C interface has two ports. Data port and power port. It is recommended to use the auxiliary power port when the D50 III is connected to a laptop or phone.
