SMSL HO200: A good balanced headphone amplifier

SMSL has released another stationary headphone pre/ amplifier HO200 .

Compact and elegant headphone amplifier and preamplifier with an output stage capable of delivering up to 6 W into 16 ohms (3 W @ 32 ohms). It is an ideal solution for proper control of modern headphones. This HO200, created by SMSL, also features a pre-amp output and source selector, making it a practical and versatile device for desktop installation.

Simple and Effective Interface
The HO200’s interface is as simple as it is well designed. There’s a selector here to turn the device on, a three-way gain control (bass/mid/high) that’s very useful for easily switching between headphone listening and IEM listening.
There is also an output circuit selector (preamp/headphone amp), as well as a source selector (XLR/RCA).
Finally, a large rotary knob is used to adjust the volume.

The HO200’s balanced audio circuitry
offers a balanced headphone output on an XLR-4 jack, a balanced output on a 4.4mm jack, and a single-ended output on a 6.35mm jack. Thus, it can handle complex headphones using different architectures.
Its fully balanced audio circuitry includes 4 linear feedback loops with ultra-low distortion. Thus, the HO200’s distortion level reaches 0.00006% / 0.000005% A-WTD, or -126 dB, which is an impressive figure that can bring out the full qualities of an audio signal.

Low Noise Power Stage
The integrated power supply uses an ultra-low noise 1.0 µV architecture, achieving a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 140 dB.
The high-quality relay system completely avoids spot noise caused by ignition, input/output changes during playback to suppress any noise that may disrupt the listening experience.

The device is protected by a durable and elegant machined aluminum housing. The latter also limits the occurrence of noise if it is in the same environment as other electrical devices. This material blocks waves that could cause electrical micro-oscillations in the audio circuit, thereby avoiding amplification of interference.
