Onkyo PA-MC5501: Nine-channel power amplifier

Onkyo PA-MC5501
Onkyo PA-MC5501

The nine-channel Onkyo PA-MC5501 power amplifier is designed by Onkyo engineers to deliver more than just raw power—it’s carefully engineered to deliver superb dynamic response and outstanding sonic transparency and clarity. Possessing high efficiency. Onkyo’s push-pull amplification circuit coupled with wideband WRAT technology minimizes noise and distortion, stabilizes voltage, and increases the maximum current that the Onkyo PA-MC5501 can deliver to a load.

Onkyo PA-MC5501 is certified to the highest standard today, THX Ultra 2, and embodies all the company’s achievements in creating equipment of this class. The amplifier develops an output power of up to 220 W per channel at a load of 6 Ohms, has final stages on discrete transistors (three-stage inverted Darlington circuit), and its power supply contains a massive toroidal transformer and two custom filter capacitors with a capacity of 22,000 μF. The amplifier is built using audiophile grade components and features thick copper plating on the circuit boards to reliably carry high currents. The device is assembled in a metal case on an anti-resonance chassis, using separate anti-vibration panels.

The amplifier uses several proprietary Onkyo technologies and circuit solutions to obtain the best sound quality in any conditions: WRAT (Wideband Amplification Technology), minimal feedback depth, separate power rails for different amplifier stages, high-current output stages for better compatibility with the most “complex” acoustic systems.

The amplifier has a symmetrical circuit design for all channels, so the Onkyo PA-MC5501 is equipped with unipolar (RCA) and balanced (XLR) inputs with gold-plated contact surfaces, as well as powerful screw terminals for connecting speakers. The amplifier also has trigger connectors for remote control, and it can be used in multi-room systems (for up to three zones). To save energy, there is a function to automatically switch the amplifier to Standby mode in the absence of an input signal.

When used in conjunction with a modern AV processor, the Onkyo PA-MC5501 power amplifier can become the basis for the most serious home theater system, easily sounding large rooms and coping with almost any acoustics.
