Cyrus Audio has completed development of the 80 Amp and made the integrated amplifier available through selected dealers. The finished model expands on the original announcement with Bluetooth output for wireless headphones and an adjustable moving-magnet and moving-coil phono input.
A full-width departure for Cyrus
The 80 Amp forms part of the Cyrus 80 Series, which was originally introduced alongside the 80 Pre and 80 Power. Unlike the British manufacturer’s traditionally narrow, deep components, the new range adopts a conventional full-width format. The 80 Amp measures 435 mm across, marking a significant change in the company’s established industrial design.
The larger enclosure provides more internal space for the amplifier architecture while also allowing heat-producing components to dissipate heat more easily. Cyrus says the 80 Amp is designed, developed and manufactured in Great Britain.
Although the exterior represents a new direction, the amplifier remains identifiable as a Cyrus product. It also establishes a design language that the company intends to use for additional components as it expands the range.
Class AB amplification and digital conversion
At its core, the Cyrus 80 Amp is a Class AB integrated amplifier rated at 150 watts per channel into a 6-ohm loudspeaker load. It is intended to serve as the central component in systems containing both conventional hi-fi sources and newer networked equipment.
Digital conversion is handled by an ESS Sabre DAC. Cyrus has not identified the specific converter chip in the supplied information, but the amplifier supports high-resolution audio and provides several routes for connecting digital sources.
USB-B is included for a direct computer connection, while optical and coaxial digital inputs accommodate compatible transports, televisions and other source components. HDMI eARC offers another television connection option, allowing the amplifier to be incorporated into a two-channel entertainment system without requiring a separate AV receiver.
BluOS streaming and wireless headphone output
Integrated BluOS gives the 80 Amp access to network streaming and the wider BluOS multiroom ecosystem. The amplifier is also Roon Ready and supports AirPlay 2, broadening the options for controlling and sending music from computers and mobile devices.
One of the notable additions made after the initial product announcement is a Bluetooth output. Rather than serving only as a way to receive audio from a phone, this connection can transmit sound from the amplifier to compatible wireless headphones. That makes private listening possible without adding a separate Bluetooth transmitter to the system.
The streaming platform, digital inputs and wireless headphone feature give the 80 Amp a wider role than a conventional analog integrated amplifier. They also reduce the number of external boxes required for users who want amplification, conversion and network playback in one component.
Analog sources and adjustable vinyl playback
Cyrus has equipped the 80 Amp with four analog inputs as well as balanced XLR connectivity. The range of connections is designed to accommodate multiple source components spanning traditional analog hardware and contemporary digital equipment.
Vinyl playback is addressed by an integrated phono stage supporting both moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges. Its gain is adjustable, providing a degree of flexibility when matching cartridges with different output levels. This phono section was another feature refined and added while development continued following the amplifier’s initial presentation.
With BluOS, an onboard DAC and the MM/MC input all built in, the 80 Amp can anchor a system containing a turntable, digital sources, network services and a television. The finished amplifier is now available through selected Cyrus dealers. No USD price was provided.
The 80 Amp signals a broader change for Cyrus, combining a new full-width chassis with a substantial set of streaming, digital and analog facilities. Its completed specification adds useful flexibility for both wireless headphone users and vinyl listeners while retaining a conventional Class AB integrated-amplifier foundation.
