Neat Acoustics has announced two new speakers. The Momentum J-s and Momentum J-6 are derived from the Ultimatum series, but have been cheaper due to a few cuts. They are still real Neat speakers, the manufacturer assures them.

Neat Acoustics Momentum

Neat Acoustics will make the two all-new models their world debut at the North West Audio Show in late June 2024. The Momentum J-s and Momentum J-6 are high-end designs based on Neat’s flagship Ultimatum range. The main differences between the Ultimatum and Momentum models are that the Momentum cabinets are made of MDF instead of the more expensive birch plywood of the Ultimatum cabinets. Additionally, the Ultimatum’s upward-firing supertweeters have been left out of the Momentum designs, but the main tweeter (a soft-dome model from Sonolex in the Ultimatum) is a wide-bandwidth AMT Jet tweeter made by German manufacturer ELAC. And the down-firing isobaric bass units in the J-6 are 164 millimeter Peerless drivers, as used in the Neat Ascoustics Orkestra.

The J-s is a mid-range monitor model that uses the same midrange/woofer as the Ultimatum XLS in isobaric configuration. It also uses the XLS’s decoupled baffle formed around the tweeter to reduce cabinet vibration and minimize diffraction effects.

The tweeter is ELAC’s JET tweeter, an advanced development of the Air Motion Transformer principle first proposed by Oskar Heil in the early 1970s.

The J-6 is a floorstander based on the Ultimatum XL6, with Neat’s own bass-mid driver again combined with the ELAC Jet tweeter. There are also two downward-firing bass units in isobaric configuration, which act as an integral subwoofer.

As with all Neat speakers, the crossover is a carefully crafted filter using the finest quality components, chosen after many hours of listening. The J-6 is mounted on Ultimatum-style, laser-cut steel feet, raised on four aluminum spacers that allow the woofers to operate optimally, according to the manufacturer.

The Momentum speakers will be available on the market in late summer. The possible colors and finishes and prices have yet to be announced.
