The DB Series are the most advanced subwoofers ever produced by Bowers & Wilkins. Building on the legacy of the award-winning DB1 subwoofer, each of the three models features new digital technologies and materials derived from the award-winning 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers. All three models pack a punch, featuring Aerofoil cones and an all-new digital preamp section with Dynamic EQ. The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB3D delivers true bass from a compact enclosure. If you want impeccable bass but are short on floor space, the DB3D is the subwoofer for you. This high-performance subwoofer delivers surprisingly deep bass from an extremely compact and incredibly rigid enclosure. Two 8-inch Aerofoil cone bass drivers in an opposed, balanced configuration are driven by a 1,000-watt Class D amplifier to deliver tight, deep bass.
Like all new DB Series subwoofers, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB3D is incredibly easy to set up and operate, thanks to a dedicated mobile app available for both iOS and Android devices. The app provides placement, setup and troubleshooting guidance, and can also be used to control output and audio mode presets. Room EQ lets you optimise the subwoofer’s sound for your room using your smartphone’s built-in microphone (no need for a separate setup microphone).
The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB3D is the most compact subwoofer in the DB Series, making it ideal for building a high-end home cinema or compact stereo system. Despite its relatively modest dimensions, this “baby” is capable of providing confident, dense and deep bass, as it has a well-thought-out design with a pair of 8-inch LF drivers installed opposite each other, a heavy rigid body and a built-in Hypex D-class amplifier with a power of a whole kilowatt.
The opposite arrangement of two oppositely directed speakers helps to reduce cabinet vibrations and obtain pure natural bass without any coloration. The subwoofer is an excellent match for the acoustic systems of the iconic 800th series Diamond, as it uses similar lightweight and very rigid Aerofoil diffusers (the woofers of the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB3D are exactly the same size as the LF emitters of the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond 802 D3). Aerofoil cones have an uneven thickness, due to which increased strength is provided in the most critical places. As a result, smooth piston movement of the membrane is guaranteed, which, according to the manufacturer, is able to resist bending and deformations much longer than the diaphragms of conventional speakers. The subwoofer also perfectly matches other speakers, for example, with the CM series models.
The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB3D model is equipped with a digital preamplifier that provides an optimal power level. On board there are Dynamic EQ and Room EQ equalizers, which allow you to adjust the sound of the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB3D in accordance with the features of any listening room and any audio system – a home theater, a custom installation or a regular two-channel Hi-Fi. To control and change the settings, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB3D has a special application for iOS and Android devices, which communicates with the subwoofer via Bluetooth. With this application and the Room EQ function, this model can be automatically calibrated without resorting to a separate tuning microphone, since its role is taken over by the smartphone microphone. The subwoofer is equipped with two balanced and two unbalanced input connectors. There are a pair of trigger sockets, one of which is used for remote switching on or switching to standby mode, and the second allows you to remotely select the desired input. There is an RS-232 interface for controlling the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB3D subwoofer using a professional automation system such as Crestron.
