Denon has added the AVC-X3900H to its home cinema receiver lineup, positioning it as an advanced 9.4-channel model for surround systems that may grow over time. The receiver combines 105 watts of amplification, broad immersive-audio support, 8K-capable HDMI 2.1 connectivity, four subwoofer outputs and built-in HEOS multiroom streaming.
9.4-channel amplification with expansion options
The AVC-X3900H is built as a nine-channel receiver, with Denon specifying 105 watts under hi-fi measurement conditions: 8 ohms, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, low distortion and two channels driven. Denon also notes a 180-watt figure when measured with a 1 kHz test tone and one channel driven, a reminder that amplifier ratings can vary significantly depending on the test method.
The receiver provides 9.4 channels onboard and 11.4-channel pre-out capability for users who want to add a separate stereo power amplifier or active speakers. That allows layouts such as 7.4.2 or 5.4.4 directly from the receiver, with larger 7.4.4 or 5.4.6 configurations possible through external amplification.
Construction details include nine identical power amplifier blocks, separate analog and digital sections, multiple power supplies and a shortened signal path. Denon also lists an Enhanced SHARC+ Dual Core DSP, multilayer circuit boards and surface-mount modules as part of the internal platform. The unit is finished in black with a real aluminum front.

Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Auro-3D and IMAX Enhanced support
The AVC-X3900H covers the main immersive cinema formats, including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D, with IMAX Enhanced also supported. Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization and DTS Virtual:X are included for systems that do not use dedicated ceiling or height speakers, adding a virtual height dimension from more conventional speaker layouts.
Auro-3D support gives the receiver another route to height-layer playback, including the option for speaker arrangements that add elevated channels and, in a full configuration, a central overhead VOG channel. The receiver’s channel count and pre-out structure are intended to give owners flexibility in choosing between competing immersive formats and speaker layouts.
Room correction is handled by Audyssey MultEQ XT32, with support for measurements in up to eight listening positions. The system can calibrate four separate subwoofers, which do not have to be identical or symmetrically placed. Audyssey LFC, Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ are also included for day-to-day bass management and level control. The AVC-X3900H is additionally Dirac Live Ready, including RC, BC and ART versions, with licenses purchased separately.

Six HDMI 2.1 inputs for 8K video and gaming
Video connectivity is a major part of the AVC-X3900H feature set. The receiver includes six HDMI 2.1 inputs with HDCP 2.3, plus three HDMI outputs, including two 8K-capable outputs and an HDMI Zone 2 output. HDMI support includes 8K/60, 4K/120, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dynamic HDR, HLG, eARC, CEC, ALLM, QFT, VRR, 1440p pass-through and AMD FreeSync.
The gaming-focused HDMI features are aimed at current console and PC setups, with 4K/120, Auto Low Latency Mode, Quick Frame Transport and Variable Refresh Rate designed to support smoother video and better synchronization between picture and sound. The receiver can also upscale video up to 8K/60 via HDMI.
With eARC, audio from a compatible TV can be returned to the receiver over the same HDMI cable, including Dolby Atmos from supported apps and services. For users with both a television and projector, the three HDMI outputs provide additional installation flexibility.
HEOS streaming, AirPlay 2 and two-way Bluetooth
Denon has built HEOS multiroom directly into the AVC-X3900H, bringing app-based access to internet radio and supported streaming services including Spotify Connect, TIDAL and Qobuz, with Roon support also listed. The receiver omits traditional FM and DAB radio in favor of internet radio through the HEOS platform.
Apple AirPlay 2 is included for streaming from iPhone, iPad and other Apple-compatible devices, and the receiver also has built-in Wi-Fi. Spotify Connect lets the Spotify app act as a controller rather than streaming audio over Bluetooth from the phone itself.
Bluetooth is implemented as a two-way feature. That means the receiver can accept wireless playback from phones, tablets or computers, and it can also transmit audio to compatible wireless headphones. The receiver is also listed as ready for voice control through Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri, using a separate voice-control device on the same network.

Setup tools and wireless surround plans
Denon’s setup system includes an on-screen 1080p graphical interface and a Setup Wizard that guides users through speaker configuration, room correction, network setup and source connections. The speaker terminals are arranged horizontally for easier access from above, and color coding is used to help match cables to channels.
The AVC-X3900H can store two speaker configurations, allowing users to switch between different setups, such as separate preferences for movies and music or a lower-impact late-night arrangement. Denon’s AVR Remote app provides control over setup and playback, including music library navigation from a networked computer or drive where supported.
A notable planned feature is wireless rear surround operation with Denon Home speakers. Denon says this capability will be added through a future free firmware update. The receiver is described as compatible with two Denon Home 200 speakers for the rear channels, or with a larger Denon Home 400 or Home 600 speaker capable of reproducing both rear channels.
The Denon AVC-X3900H is aimed at home cinema systems that need modern HDMI 2.1 switching, flexible immersive-audio layouts and integrated streaming in one receiver. With 9.4 onboard channels, 11.4 pre-outs, four subwoofer outputs and both Audyssey and optional Dirac Live paths, it is designed as a receiver that can anchor a system now while leaving room for future expansion.
