Luxman is continuing its centenary celebrations with the B-100 Centennial, a flagship mono power amplifier designed to combine pure Class A operation with the ability to drive demanding loudspeaker loads. The approximately 60-kilogram amplifier joins the Japanese manufacturer’s range of anniversary products and is expected to arrive during September 2026.
Class A operation with higher Class AB output
The B-100 Centennial operates in pure Class A mode up to 25 watts into 8 ohms. When more output is required, it transitions into Class AB operation and delivers a continuous 125 watts into 8 ohms or 250 watts into 4 ohms.
Luxman also specifies peak output of up to 1,000 watts into a 1-ohm load. The progression in output as impedance falls is intended to support loudspeakers with difficult or uneven impedance characteristics, where an amplifier may be asked to provide substantial current over short periods.
As a monaural power amplifier, each B-100 Centennial handles a single audio channel. A stereo system therefore requires two units, separating the left- and right-channel amplification into independent chassis.
Fully balanced architecture and LIFES 1.1
Internally, the B-100 Centennial uses a fully balanced circuit layout. Its newly developed output stage incorporates four parallel amplifier modules for each half of the signal, an arrangement created to support the amplifier’s output and load-driving capabilities.
The amplifier also employs Luxman’s proprietary LIFES 1.1 circuit technology. The name stands for Luxman Integrated Feedback Engine System, and this version forms part of the company’s approach to distortion control.
Rather than applying conventional overall negative feedback throughout the circuit, LIFES 1.1 is designed to intervene specifically where distortion occurs. Luxman says this method is intended to preserve dynamics, timing behavior and low-level tonal information while maintaining signal accuracy.
A 1,250VA power supply for demanding loads
A large 1,250VA EI-core transformer forms the foundation of the B-100 Centennial’s power supply. It is partnered with generously specified filter capacitors to maintain stable power delivery when loudspeaker impedance drops or musical demand changes rapidly.
The scale of the power supply contributes to the amplifier’s considerable physical weight of around 60 kilograms. It also reflects the design priority placed on maintaining output stability under low-impedance conditions, complementing the specified peak capability at 1 ohm.
Chassis construction and centenary details
Luxman has developed the mechanical construction to reduce vibration and unwanted interaction between the chassis and audio circuitry. The B-100 Centennial uses what the company calls a loopless chassis, together with optimized internal grounding intended to avoid unnecessary current loops.
A multilayer base plate adds structural support, while solid cast-iron feet are used to control mechanical vibration. These measures are intended to limit microphonic effects that could affect the amplifier’s sensitive circuitry.
Externally, a restrained Centennial emblem distinguishes the model from Luxman’s standard production components and identifies it as part of the company’s anniversary series. The design remains focused on the substantial proportions and purposeful appearance expected of a high-output mono power amplifier.
Expected availability
Luxman expects the B-100 Centennial to reach the market during September 2026.
The new amplifier is positioned as a centenary flagship for systems requiring separate monaural amplification, Class A operation at lower output levels and additional Class AB power when loudspeaker or listening demands increase.
With its balanced mono architecture, 25-watt Class A operating range, LIFES 1.1 circuitry and oversized power supply, the B-100 Centennial brings Luxman’s current amplifier technologies together in a commemorative flagship design.
