Denon has added the AVR-X2900H DAB to its home-cinema receiver lineup, combining 7.1-channel amplification with modern HDMI 2.1 video handling, wireless music features and built-in DAB+/FM radio.
A 7.1-channel hub for film and music systems
The Denon AVR-X2900H DAB is designed as a central control point for a compact but capable surround installation. It provides seven amplifier channels and supports a 7.1-channel speaker layout, with connections for two subwoofers. Denon rates the receiver at 95 watts into 8 ohms with two channels driven across the stated audio band, while additional power figures are specified for 6-ohm operation.
Surround format support includes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, giving the receiver compatibility with object-based soundtracks from disc, streaming and gaming sources where available. For rooms where ceiling or height speakers are not practical, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization and DTS Virtual:X are included to create a perceived height effect from more conventional speaker layouts.
The amplifier platform is described as using seven matching analogue power amplifier blocks, with separated analogue and digital sections. Denon also specifies an Enhanced SHARC+ Dual Core DSP, multilayer circuit boards and surface-mount components as part of the receiver’s internal signal-processing and construction approach.
HDMI 2.1 features for 8K video and gaming
Video connectivity is one of the AVR-X2900H DAB’s main talking points. The receiver includes six HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs, with HDCP 2.3 support. Three of the HDMI inputs support 8K, while the HDMI section also covers 8K/60 and 4K/120 pass-through, plus Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dynamic HDR and HLG.
For gaming setups, the supported feature list includes ALLM, QFT, VRR, 1440p pass-through and AMD FreeSync. These HDMI 2.1 functions are intended to support responsive, high-resolution playback from compatible consoles and displays. The two HDMI outputs operate in parallel, allowing the receiver to feed two displays, such as a television and projector, from the same system.
The receiver also supports eARC, enabling audio from a compatible television to be returned to the AVR over HDMI, including Dolby Atmos where the TV and source service support it. This allows built-in TV apps and external video sources to be integrated through a single HDMI connection to the display.
HEOS streaming, AirPlay 2 and two-way Bluetooth
The AVR-X2900H DAB includes Denon’s HEOS multiroom platform, giving access to internet radio and supported streaming services through the HEOS app. Listed service support includes Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz, Deezer and Amazon Prime Music, with Roon support also noted in the supplied feature set.
Apple AirPlay 2 is included for streaming from compatible Apple devices and for integration with other AirPlay 2 speakers. Spotify Connect is also supported, allowing playback to be controlled from the Spotify app while the receiver handles the stream directly.
Bluetooth is implemented as a two-way feature. In addition to receiving audio wirelessly from a phone, tablet or computer, the receiver can transmit audio to compatible wireless headphones. Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity are both part of the receiver’s network feature set.
Radio, phono input and room correction options
Unlike many AV receivers that focus entirely on network sources, the AVR-X2900H DAB includes built-in DAB+/FM radio with RDS. It also provides a phono input, allowing a turntable to be connected without requiring an external phono stage, assuming the cartridge and turntable are compatible with the input type.
Room correction is handled by Audyssey MultEQ XT, with Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ also available for everyday listening scenarios such as late-night viewing or managing level changes between sources. The receiver can store two different speaker setups, enabling users to switch between configurations from the remote control.
Dirac Live readiness is also specified, though the room-correction license is purchased separately. Denon’s implementation allows an Audyssey setup and a Dirac setup to be stored separately, giving users a way to compare or alternate between calibration approaches.
Setup, control and speaker flexibility
Denon includes its on-screen Setup Wizard to guide initial configuration, including speakers, networking and source connections. The graphical interface is specified at 1080p resolution, and the speaker terminals are arranged horizontally with color coding to simplify installation.
Control options include the supplied remote and the Denon AVR Remote app. Voice-control readiness is also listed for Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri, but it requires a separate compatible voice-control device on the same network.
A future firmware update is planned to add support for wireless surround back speakers using Denon Home models. The stated options include using two Denon Home 200 speakers, or a larger Denon Home 400 or Home 600 model capable of reproducing both rear channels. The receiver is offered in a black finish.
With 7.1-channel amplification, three 8K-capable HDMI inputs, HEOS streaming, DAB+/FM radio and both Audyssey and optional Dirac Live room correction, the Denon AVR-X2900H DAB is positioned as a feature-rich AV receiver for home-theater systems that do not need expansion beyond seven channels.
