The Gold Note Valore 425 Plus turntable operates with remarkable silence, eliminating any audible rumble or noise from the speakers that can arise from bearings with excessive friction. The anti-skating mechanism functions effectively, ensuring that distortions are not present on tracks near the “apple.” The bass response is significantly influenced by the capabilities of the speakers, and in this instance, they performed exceptionally well within a closed design. While the bass may not be overly deep, it is quick and well-defined. The turntable is precise and analytical, capable of revealing even the most subtle details in the soundscape and highlighting the distinctive character of each record. Some records exhibit enhanced detail in the midrange, while others feature remarkably clear and transparent highs. Additionally, the bass on 180-gram pressings differs notably from that of original releases. This may seem straightforward, yet it is common for lower-end turntables to make all records sound alike.
The 20 mm thick disc is constructed from the same polymer through the process of extrusion (injection molding). The primary unit features a patented Split-Spindle design, inspired by earlier player models. This design comprises two components aligned on a common axis: an external threaded section and an internal part that houses two small graphite-Teflon bearings. A longitudinal groove filled with oil ensures the lubrication of the moving parts. The significant depth of the shaft (80 mm) prevents any swinging of the disc. The manufacturer claims that the Split-Spindle design possesses self-cleaning capabilities, allowing it to effectively expel dirt from the bearing gap after just a few hours of operation. The disc is noticeably elevated above the table, creating the illusion of it floating when viewed from the side.
The player is supported by three height-adjustable conical legs made from acrylic, which effectively isolate it from external vibrations.
The 24-pole AC synchronous motor is securely mounted in a meticulously damped enclosure and is powered by a compact external unit. This unit features a PWM converter that generates a clean sine wave voltage of 12 volts. As a result, it delivers high torque while maintaining a minimal rumble level of -76 dB. Additionally, adjusting the speed between 33 and 45 rpm is as simple as pressing the designated button on the converter. The player is fitted with a straight 8-inch Gold Note B-5 III tonearm, which boasts a traditional rotary design supported by precision 9 mm bearings and an effective mass of 10 g. The tonearm shell is fixed, and the internal wiring utilizes a shielded 36 AWG Hyper Litz cable made from 99.9999% pure OFC copper.
The low-voltage AC motor operates using a PWM AC-DC-AC converter that delivers an output voltage of 12 volts. The consistent frequency and amplitude ensure that the disc rotates steadily, unaffected by fluctuations in the city’s power supply. This same drive mechanism is utilized in the Valore Plus Acrylic model (€1850), which features a 40 cm wide transparent acrylic tabletop and includes a cover in the package. In the premium Valore 425 Acrylic version (€1880), the acrylic tabletop measures 425 mm in width, allowing for the installation of a 9-inch tonearm. The motor operates at 12 volts and is powered by an AC-DC-AC converter. While the cover is provided, the cartridge must be selected and purchased separately. All Gold Note turntables are manufactured in our own facility located in Florence.
