Wharfedale has introduced the three-way Wharfedale Super Linton speaker system, an enhanced iteration of its well-regarded Linton model, celebrated for its classic aesthetic. This new version builds upon the achievements of the 2019 Linton speaker system, which was refreshed in that year. The Wharfedale Super Linton distinguishes itself from the original model in virtually every aspect, featuring new drivers, an updated crossover, and modifications to the speaker cabinet, all contributing to a more dynamic and superior sound experience.
The classic design of the model, which belongs to Wharfedale’s Heritage series, has remained consistent. This series is focused on reviving iconic acoustic models from the 1960s and 1970s, incorporating contemporary technologies.
The Wharfedale Super Linton speakers are designed with a slightly elevated cabinet constructed from specialized materials that minimize resonance. The 20cm Kevlar cone low-frequency driver incorporates a robust magnet system, delivering bass performance down to 32Hz and enhancing the richness of the low frequencies.
The tweeter takes inspiration from Wharfedale’s Dovedale, featuring a 1-inch fabric dome and a ceramic magnet system. The 13.5cm midrange driver is identical to that of the Linton’s base model, but it is now placed in a specially designed sealed chamber to enhance midrange clarity.
To enhance the performance of the new emitters, Wharfedale engineers have revamped the crossover circuit by distributing it across two boards, thereby reducing the interaction between various frequency ranges. Additionally, modifications have been made to the component base and internal wiring, which contribute to a clearer signal and superior sound quality.
The Super Linton loudspeakers feature a specified frequency response ranging from 39Hz to 20kHz, a sensitivity rating of 90dB, and a nominal impedance of 6 ohms. Additionally, the grille has been reengineered to enhance sound dispersion.
The Wharfedale Super Linton speakers come in a selection of finishes, including walnut, mahogany, and black oak veneers. This new model is set to launch in mid-November, with a recommended retail price of $2,499 for a pair that includes the branded speaker stands, identical to those of the Linton model. For those opting for the speakers without stands, the price will be $2,299. Additionally, the original 2019 Linton model continues to be available for $1,799 per pair, which also includes the stands.
