Wharfedale Heritage Centre: Vintage-Style 3-Way Center Speaker for Hi-Fi Home Cinema

Wharfedale Heritage Centre is a retro-inspired 3-way center speaker designed to match Linton and Denton models, delivering clear dialogue and rich, natural sound.

Wharfedale has launched the Heritage Centre. As the name suggests, the Heritage Centre is a center speaker with a retro look. Together with Wharfedale's other retro speakers, a retro home cinema system can be set up in this way. The buyer can choose from three color schemes.

Three-way center speaker with retro design

According to the makers, the Wharfedale Heritage series is a tribute to the brand's history. Home cinemas did not yet exist fifty years ago, but there is now a center speaker that perfectly complements Wharfedale's retro speakers. The Heritage Centre transforms the Linton or Denton speakers from a stereo setup into a 3.1 or 5.1 home cinema system. According to the designers, the new center speaker was specifically designed to work with the existing Heritage models, and the appearance of the Heritage Centre matches perfectly.

Like the Linton , Super Linton , Super Denton , and Dovedale , the Heritage Centre is a three-way system: the midrange driver works in conjunction with two bass drivers and a tweeter. The speakers are derived from those in the Super Denton. Two bass ports are located at the rear.

Drivers

The midrange driver's 50 mm fabric dome is said to improve voice projection and dialogue clarity, exactly what a listener should expect from a center speaker. It also promises wide dispersion with a seamless transition across the entire frequency range. The tweeter houses a ceramic magnet motor system with its own 25 mm fabric dome, and a damped rear chamber that absorbs the diaphragm's output, thereby lowering the resonant frequency. This should eliminate harsh sounds.

In general, the Centre promises the same full sound, richly expressive midtones, and beautifully articulated high frequencies as the rest of the Heritage series.

Much attention was also paid to the design of the Centre. Like all other Heritage models, it was supervised by Peter Comeau, Director of Acoustic Design at Wharfedale. A combination of wood types was chosen to dampen panel resonances. The internal bracing, together with the damping material, ensures that cabinet resonances remain below the level of the audio signal to prevent interference.

Moreover, it is finished with the same walnut, mahogany, and black oak veneer layers as the Linton and Denton models, ensuring a perfect match in appearance. A removable cover is included.
