Rotel has expanded its premium Michi Prestige range with the P430 preamplifier and S430 stereo power amplifier. Designed as a separates alternative to the X430 integrated amplifier, the pairing combines analog and digital source support with substantial two-channel output.
A New Separates System for the Michi Prestige Range
The P430 and S430 join a Prestige series that began with the X430 integrated amplifier and Q430 CD player. While the X430 places amplification and system control in one chassis, the new components divide those responsibilities between a dedicated preamplifier and power amplifier.
Michi positions the P430 as the system’s control center, with the S430 providing the current and output required to drive a pair of passive speakers. The arrangement is intended for installations that require more connectivity, greater power and the flexibility of separate components. Both models follow the range’s substantial industrial design, making them suitable for dedicated listening rooms as well as premium living-room systems.
P430 Handles Analog, Digital and TV Sources
The P430 accommodates a wide selection of sources within a single chassis. Its analog section includes RCA and balanced XLR line-level connections, along with an integrated moving-magnet phono stage for a compatible turntable cartridge.
Digital connectivity includes coaxial and optical inputs, USB-B for use with a computer and HDMI ARC for routing television audio through the hi-fi system. Bluetooth supports aptX HD and AAC codecs for wireless playback from smartphones, tablets and other compatible devices.
Digital-to-analog conversion is handled by an eight-channel ESS SABRE ES9028PRO DAC. Rotel also specifies advanced clock and jitter management, a balanced signal architecture, isolated dual power supplies and an optimized grounding arrangement. According to the company, these design measures are intended to maintain a low noise floor and preserve detail.
The front panel includes a 6.35 mm headphone output. Two subwoofer outputs provide options for systems requiring additional low-frequency support, while coaxial and optical digital outputs can pass a signal to another digital component.
P430 Performance Specifications
Rotel specifies total harmonic distortion below 0.002 percent for the P430. Its quoted frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 100 kHz through the RCA and XLR line inputs, while the digital and phono sections are rated from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. All of these figures carry a tolerance of ±0.3 dB.
The stated signal-to-noise ratios are 110 dB for the RCA line inputs, 106 dB for the balanced XLR inputs, 103 dB for digital sources and 82 dB for the moving-magnet phono input. The preamplifier measures 431 x 148 x 404 mm and weighs 10.8 kg.
S430 Delivers Up to 390 Watts per Channel
The matching S430 is a two-channel power amplifier rated at 230 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 390 watts per channel into 4 ohms. Rotel also lists an FTC output specification of 250 watts per channel into 8 ohms.
Its power supply is built around an oversized toroidal transformer developed in-house, supported by a large capacitor bank. This linear supply is designed to maintain stable current delivery under demanding operating conditions.
The amplifier accepts both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs. Two sets of precision five-way speaker terminals allow a secure connection and support bi-wiring where appropriate. A 12V trigger connection enables coordinated power control within a larger component system.
Aluminum Construction and Configurable Display
The S430 uses an aluminum chassis and carries forward the restrained visual language of the Michi Prestige series. Its front-panel TFT screen can be configured to show either VU meters or a spectrum display.
Published specifications include total harmonic distortion below 0.03 percent and a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 115 dB. Frequency response is quoted at 10 Hz to 100 kHz within ±0.4 dB. The S430 measures 431 x 148 x 405 mm and weighs 17.5 kg, making it notably heavier than the companion preamplifier.
With the P430 and S430, Rotel’s Michi division now offers a dedicated preamp and power-amplifier route through the Prestige range. The combination brings together phono, computer, wireless and television connectivity while retaining the power reserves and system flexibility expected from a full-size separates setup.
