he Marantz Stereo 70s stereo receiver is designed for those music lovers who would like to have a universal system for watching movies and listening to music at home, but for one reason or another would not like to buy a traditional AV receiver. The Marantz Stereo 70s is made in a case that is two times lower than that of AV devices, which simplifies its placement in a home system. At the same time, the device has a recognizable new industrial design from Marantz, and its design is highly reliable.

Marantz Stereo 70s is built on the classic scheme of integrated amplifiers, using fully discrete circuits and selected components in the most important stages in terms of sound quality. The output circuits in the stereo receiver have a symmetrical topology, and separate windings of the network transformer are used to power the different circuits of the device. Two pairs of speakers can be connected to the device, and tone controls are provided to adjust the character of the sound.

At the same time, the capabilities of the Marantz Stereo 70s go far beyond what we are used to seeing in Hi-Fi devices. The Marantz Stereo 70s model also has all modern streaming and wireless technologies, including the proprietary HEOS multi-room system, AirPlay 2, Spotify and popular On-Line music services. The stereo receiver also has Bluetooth for convenient connection to portable gadgets and USB for connecting flash drives with music files. The Marantz Stereo 70s model uses an 8-channel differential-mode microcircuit, that is, in fact, two DACs are used in each channel of the stereo receiver. This solution made it possible to obtain the best signal-to-noise ratio, reduce distortion and expand the dynamic range of sound. Marantz Stereo 70s plays audio in High Resolution formats: PCM up to 24 bit / 192 kHz and DSD 5.6 MHz.

Marantz Stereo 70s switches six HDMI inputs, each of which (and this is far from an ordinary parameter) supports HDCP 2.3, 8K Ultra HD 60 Hz video, HLG and other relevant additions. The system has an automatic low latency mode (ALLM) for connected Xbox One with TV models that also support ALLM. The sound delay can be adjusted to the video. The seventh HDMI connector, marked in white on black “Monitor ARC”, will allow the device to completely replace the sound system of your TV with control from the standard “TV” remote control. Digital switching is represented by coaxial and optical inputs. Cable connection to the network is provided. The wireless option, of course, is present in all its glory – two antenna connectors in the upper corners of the rear panel, marked “Bluetooth / Wi-Fi Antena”.

In other words, if the owner of the Marantz Stereo 70s does not use the network capabilities of the model or uses a cable connection, and the sight of Wi-Fi antennas sticking out to the sides is not to his liking, and he ignores them, then there will be problems with Bluetooth. That is, it will still work, but from a distance of no more than a meter and somehow uncertainly, which your humble servant was able to verify personally. So the antennas need to be connected in any case. By the way, they can easily be positioned so that they are hidden behind the case. The built-in Wi-Fi supports two ranges: 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz. Among the classic analog RCA connectors on the rear panel, the pair marked “PHONO” with a mandatory ground terminal is undoubtedly pleasing. Vinyl lovers, thanks to the built-in phono preamplifier, have received a faithful ally with a good signature sound in the Marantz Stereo 70s. In addition, there are three RCA line inputs, as well as stereo outputs: ZONE 2 and FRONT.

Speaking of service switching, the Marantz Stereo 70s is equipped with an IR IN Flasher plug connector, which is hardly in great demand in our area. There is also an RCA remote control input/output for connecting infrared receivers/transmitters to control the Marantz Stereo 70s itself and external devices from another room. Another miniature non-standard four-channel connector on the rear panel is called a service connector and should not interest the user. As for remote service control, the system, in particular, supports the Domotz Pro technology with a dedicated web interface. The receiver offers an ECO power saving mode, which limits energy consumption. At the same time, the maximum power of the amplifier is reduced, and in standby mode, for example, it may become unavailable to turn on the device over the network – you have to pay for everything.

One small note. To connect a speaker cable with banana plugs, you need to remove the dust caps from the receiver connectors – for example, from the two pairs of terminals of the A zone we are using (the system also provides for switching the amplifiers to the second pair of speakers connected to the system – zone B). If your acoustics provide for a two-way connection, then this is also provided by the Marantz Stereo 70s in A+B mode – using all the terminals of the speaker cable on the rear panel.
