Founded in 2010 by veteran audio engineers Mike Moffat (Theta Digital) and Jason Stoddard (Sumo), Schiit Audio has never played by the usual hi-fi rules. From day one, the California-based company set out to challenge convention—both with its irreverent name and with a product portfolio that prioritizes engineering substance over luxury posturing. Today, Schiit builds nearly everything an audiophile might need except loudspeakers, spanning DACs, headphone amplifiers, phono stages, preamps, EQs, gaming gear, and serious speaker amplification.
While Schiit is often associated with compact, high-value components, Tyr is something entirely different. This is a full-size, no-compromise monoblock power amplifier, and one that represents the most ambitious expression of Schiit’s amplifier philosophy to date.

Tyr sits at the top of Schiit’s speaker amplifier lineup, alongside models like Gjallarhorn, Vidar, Ägir, and Wotan—all named after figures from Norse mythology. In keeping with tradition, Tyr takes its name from the Norse god of war and justice, a fitting metaphor for an amplifier designed to deliver immense power with absolute control.
This is a true monoblock design, meaning one amplifier per channel. The chassis is unapologetically industrial, built for thermal efficiency and durability rather than visual excess. Extensive top and side perforations promote airflow, while substantial heatsinks on both flanks manage heat dissipation during high-output operation.

Nexus and Continuity
At the heart of Tyr are Schiit’s proprietary Nexus and Continuity technologies.
Nexus is a fully balanced, differential amplifier topology built around a discrete current-feedback architecture. It allows Tyr to accept both RCA and XLR inputs while maintaining consistent performance and low noise regardless of connection type.
Continuity addresses one of the classic weaknesses of traditional Class AB amplifiers: the transconductance drop that occurs when transitioning out of Class A operation, along with mismatch between NPN and PNP output devices. By actively compensating for these effects, Continuity enables Tyr to behave much like a Class A amplifier beyond its Class A region—without the heat and inefficiency normally associated with pure Class A designs.
The result is an amplifier that combines tonal density and smoothness with high efficiency and long-term stability.

Serious Power
Tyr is an entirely original design that blends modern circuit techniques with old-school power supply engineering. Output is rated at 200 watts into 8 ohms and 350 watts into 4 ohms, enough to drive virtually any loudspeaker load with confidence.
Inside the 25 kg chassis, the engineering is unapologetically heavy-duty:
Massive 600 VA power transformer
Equally large 600 VA choke, weighing over 5 kg
160,000 µF of total filter capacitance
24 Toshiba 150 W output devices
Seven internal power rails, including a high-voltage boost rail with Schiit’s proprietary CFP regulation
One of Tyr’s defining elements is its choke-input power supply. The custom inductor—physically as large as the main transformer—stores substantial energy to meet instantaneous current demands while dramatically stabilizing the supply. Routing the output rails through chokes reduces ripple by more than 20 dB, contributing to lower noise, greater dynamic headroom, and improved control under load.

Intelligent Protection
Tyr is supervised by an onboard microprocessor running custom firmware that continuously monitors bias, temperature, and DC offset. In the event of a fault, the system acts instantly to protect both the amplifier and connected loudspeakers.
In keeping with Schiit’s manufacturing ethos, the chassis and transformers are made in California, PCBs are produced in California or Nevada, and final assembly takes place at Schiit’s facility in San Antonio. This vertically integrated approach allows tight quality control and reinforces the brand’s commitment to domestic production.

A Classic Power Amplifier
With Tyr, Schiit Audio has created a power amplifier that feels almost classical in concept—big iron, massive reserves, conservative ratings—but thoroughly modern in execution. It delivers brute force without aggression, precision without sterility, and control without sacrificing musical flow.
For listeners seeking a monoblock amplifier that can command any speaker while staying true to real engineering values and rational pricing, Tyr stands out as one of the most compelling power amplifiers in its class. This is Schiit at its most serious—and most impressive.
