The SACD player Mark Levinson No 5101 from Harman was first shown at the Munich High End 2019 exhibition. The built-in laser disc drive added versatility to the device. The Mark Levinson PrecisionLink II on-board DAC is built around a 32-bit ESS PRO chip with jitter elimination circuitry and a fully balanced discrete current-to-voltage converter. The same solution was used in brand amplifiers No. 5802 and No. 5805. The system’s power supply is based on a toroidal transformer with filter capacitors with a total capacity of more than 13 farads.
The topology of the device is then built in accordance with the principle of dual mono – with separate controls for each channel. The discrete PurePath line output stage, operating in pure Class A, is designed to provide exceptional transparency and dynamic range. In addition to the digital inputs, the Mark Levinson No. 5101 has coaxial and optical S/PDIF digital outputs, designed in particular for sending stereo PCM to devices such as the Mark Levinson No. 5802 or No. 5805 amplifiers .
Onboard transport with slot loading is capable of accepting 12 cm laser discs SACD, CD-A, CD-R, CD-RW. It is suspended on steel posts floating on a sandwich of PVC and styrene butadiene rubber, and shielded by a steel cover. The device provides support for FLAC, WAV, AIFF, OGG, MP3, AAC and WMA formats. No 5101 is also ready to interact with NAS, receive audio from DLNA and UPnP via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. To this you can add playback of audio files from flash drives connected to the on-board USB type A. The system is equipped with one coaxial and one optical S/PDIF digital inputs. As a result, the No 5101 is ready to function as a standalone DAC.
Mark Levinson No 5101 has an elegant aluminum 5000 series infrared remote control. In addition, system integration of the device is provided by Ethernet and RS-232 communication ports. The IR remote control input is complemented by a 12 V trigger input. Drivers are available to operate the No. 5101 with major control systems. Traditional Mark Levinson design is emphasized by an inch-long front panel made of solid black anodized aluminum, into which the central display is “seamlessly” integrated.
