The Bowers & Wilkins ASW610XP model from the English company is the most powerful among the 600-series subwoofers and is designed for use in large rooms as part of a home theater or as an additional low-frequency link in stereo systems with bookshelf or small floor-standing speakers.
The closed case with the bass driver installed in its front part is perfectly damped, and the build quality is distinguished by the impeccability typical of the British brand. The large long-stroke 250 mm woofer has a powerful rubber suspension and a diffuser made of cellulose in combination with Kevlar fibers and special binding resins, which provides it with the necessary rigidity, lightness, elasticity and strength. A special feature of this model is the use of two digital D-class ICEpower amplifiers with a total power of 500 W. Two specially combined voice coils are used for the diaphragm.
On the rear panel of the Bowers & Wilkins ASW610XP subwoofer there is an on indicator and a socket for connecting the power cable, a switch with three modes (On, automatic on/off function Auto and standard Standby), separate volume controls for line and high-level inputs, a knob for selecting the cutoff frequency and a selector of the LPF filter and a three-position bass extension switch that adjusts the depth of the low-frequency range. There is also a two-position equalizer, a phase switch (0 – 180 °), a trigger jack, RCA line input connectors and two pairs of screw terminals for speaker systems. The kit includes height-adjustable spikes and rubber stands for decoupling the cabinet from the floor. To protect the membrane of the bass speaker, there is a removable grill.
The equalizer operation deserves special attention. It is recommended to move the slider to the “A” position when placing the subwoofer in the corner of the room or in a resonant room, and the “B” position is suitable for a quiet room and installation away from corners. The design uses a switchable fourth-order filter with cutoff frequencies from 25 to 140 Hz. High-quality components are used. The input impedance is quite high – 33 kOhm. Bowers & Wilkins ASW610XP has a deep, dynamic and powerful sound signature and is capable of providing a reliable and high-quality bass foundation for home theater and high-end stereo systems.
