Sony is getting ready to pull the curtain back on the next generation of its flagship true-wireless earbuds. The upcoming WF-1000XM6 is expected to be officially unveiled next week, with retail availability beginning on February 12, 2026, according to multiple industry sources.

Visually, the WF-1000XM6 marks a clear departure from the glossy, rounded aesthetic of the WF-1000XM5. The new earbuds adopt a slimmer, pill-shaped profile with a matte finish that looks more technical and less jewelry-like. Two color options are expected at launch: black and light gray.

Sony is preparing to unveil the successor to its popular WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds, the WF-1000XM6.

A major focus appears to be voice pickup and noise control. Leaked specifications point to a four-microphone system per earbud, consisting of three outward-facing microphones and one internal microphone. This expanded array is likely designed to push Sony’s already strong active noise cancellation further, while also improving transparency mode and call clarity in challenging environments.

The physical design supports this shift. The microphone housing is visibly longer, and Sony is rumored to be moving away from silicone ear tips in favor of thicker foam tips, potentially improving both passive isolation and long-term comfort. The charging case has also been redesigned, now featuring flatter top and bottom surfaces and a more angular shape—sleeker on a desk, though possibly less forgiving in tight pockets.

According to insiders, the official unveiling will take place next week, with sales scheduled for February 12, 2026.

So far, the only officially confirmed specification is IPX4 water resistance, meaning the WF-1000XM6 should comfortably handle sweat and light rain during daily use or workouts.

Pricing details are beginning to solidify as well. A briefly published retailer listing in Asia suggested a price equivalent to roughly $330–$340 USD, while European pricing points to a launch price close to $330 USD. If accurate, that would place the WF-1000XM6 squarely in premium territory, in line with Sony’s long-standing positioning at the top of the noise-canceling true-wireless market.

With a refreshed industrial design, a more complex microphone system, and Sony’s track record in digital signal processing, the WF-1000XM6 looks set to refine rather than reinvent the formula. All eyes now turn to the official announcement to see how far Sony has pushed sound quality, noise cancellation, and battery performance this time around.
