In terms of dimensions, the Atoll DAC100 Signature falls somewhat short of the standard dimensions of Hi-Fi components with a width of 430 mm. The main difference between this device and the previous DAC 100 model is the ability to receive a signal via USB with a maximum resolution of 24 bits/96 kHz instead of the previous 16 bits/48 kHz.
The developers paid close attention to the damping of the body, which underwent special treatment and was installed on rubberized feet. On the thin aluminum front panel there are three input selector buttons. To the right is an LED indicating the use of the USB input, and next to it there are two rows of LED indicators, the top of which indicates the choice of one of three coaxial inputs, and the bottom – one of the three optical input connectors. On the right side of the facade there is a power/standby button with an LED. Outputs: optical, coaxial and linear (RCA). There is a power switch on the back side.
The main element on board the Atoll DAC100 Signature is the well-known Burr-Brown PCM 1796 (24-bit/192 kHz) delta-sigma converter from Texas Instruments. The general power supply is provided by two separate Zarel transformers, one of which is responsible only for the analog section. In addition, the circuit design uses seven stabilized power supplies. The output stages use discrete elements, and feedback is not used here, which has a positive effect on the sound quality. There are audiophile capacitors MKP. Like the previous model, the output voltage is slightly higher and amounts to 2.5 volts. The signal-to-noise ratio is high, reaching 123 dB.
Atoll DAC100 Signature will be an excellent universal solution for use with almost any source, be it a PC, laptop, CD player, media player or the latest generation Sony PlayStation game console. Via coaxial and optical inputs (the CS8416 chip is used for processing), the DAC 100SE is capable of receiving and converting to analog (using a PCM 1796 chip) a digital signal with a maximum resolution of 24 bits/192 kHz. The model provides transparent, detailed and realistic sound with precise, well-defined bass and some tendency towards analyticalness.
