The Yamaha A-S1200 amplifier model features a discrete circuit topology using selected premium components, a high slew rate of the output signal, and has separate power amplification stage circuit boards, which ensures complete channel separation and eliminates their mutual influence on each other. Between the boards there is a power supply equipped with a massive transformer with an E-shaped core, which is fixed to the chassis using a brass gasket to minimize vibration and noise. The PSU uses four high-capacity capacitors in carbon shells. Twelve local shunt-type regulators are installed in the model’s circuits, guaranteeing stable power supply to all sections of the amplifier. The amplifier produces a maximum power of 160 W per channel at 4 ohms.
The Yamaha A-S1200 integrated amplifier uses in its design a symmetrical final section with so-called “floating” power supplies (Floating and Balanced Power Amplifier technology) and MOSFETs, which contribute to a warmer and more natural sound. The “floating” (with respect to the ground loop) circuitry of the terminal section allows you to get rid of the harmful effects of small voltage fluctuations and noise of the “ground” bus. Thanks to this technology, it is possible to obtain a higher signal-to-noise ratio, as well as provide a sound stage with precise localization of musical images in space.
To turn off the tone control in order to obtain a more natural sound, just set the HF and LF controls to the middle position. The amplifier uses a precision electronic volume control manufactured by New Japan Radio Co., Ltd. and providing exceptionally clear sound. The Yamaha A-S1200 has a built-in discrete phono stage that allows you to work with both types of cartridges (MM and MC).
The amplifier’s circuitry features low impedance, which improves bass response and sound dynamics. The capacity of the high-current line is increased due to the use of a cable with a larger cross-section. As a result, the Yamaha A-S1200 boasts a high damping factor, which expands its potential in terms of speaker control.
The amplifier is made in a design that gravitates towards the classics of the “golden age” of audio, which is emphasized by wooden sides, a thick aluminum facade panel and signal level indicators. The model is equipped with four pairs of brass screw terminals of an original shape. The rear panel has a set of line inputs, MM/MC phono jacks, a recording output, a Pre Out and an input for direct access to the end section. To control the amplifier, a standard remote control is provided, which also allows you to control the CD-S2100 CD player.
