Originally designed in 1971 by founder Julian Vereker, the Naim NAP 200 is utterly Naim musical. As our first production amplifier, it is the epitome of our philosophy. It is simple, uncompromising and focused on one thing: creating a connection between the music and the listener.
The Naim NAP 200 DR then took the improvements accumulated over the years and became the NAP 500 amplifier. Many of the same technical solutions used in the 500 series helped us to breathe life into its electronics again, while significantly improving performance. However, under the new technological guise lies what helped make it an icon: simplicity, detail and musicality.
Like the flagship Naim NAP 500, the NAP 200 DR uses new signal paths with improved grounding. The main board of the device is of very high quality and is resistant to resonance phenomena. The anti-vibration and anti-resonance base serves to protect sensitive electronic components from the microphonic effect and the penetration of interference.
The new high-quality 430VA toroidal transformer delivers more power than the old 300VA. Separate windings are provided for the left and right channel power supplies. Each power supply channel uses 2 smoothing capacitors. The Naim NAP 200 DR has a separate winding for the preamplifier power supply. This allows it to be used in a dual-cabinet configuration with a Naim preamplifier (such as the NAC 202). The Naim NAP 200 is stable under any load, and is capable of working for a long time at a load of 2 ohms.
The sound of this device is not at all tiring, which encourages long listening, and the longer it plays, the more you like it. At first, it captivates with a multitude of nuances and details that are inaccessible to others, and then the very essence of the work is revealed to the listener – just like the letters and words in an interesting book after some time turn into visual images.
The company’s engineers are known for their attention to detail – they try to improve everything that can affect the sound, believing that the result will be a balanced product. You could say that this amplifier repeats their path when working with each piece of music. Carefully working out all the little tasks, it ultimately forms a complete and fascinating picture.
