Mytek Brooklyn Amp is made in exactly the same dimensions as Mytek Brooklyn DAC+, which clearly implies their joint work. Amp is the first amplifier in the entire history of Mytek, and the developers approached its creation with all responsibility. They developed all the ergonomics, the input section and the pulse power supply, and the final class D module was supplied ready-made, from the Danish company Pascal A/S. Before this, Michal Jurewicz, the chief engineer of Mytek, tested 15 different OEM amplifiers, including Hypex, and none, unlike Pascal, could properly swing multi-band acoustics with complex filters. And it had to be heavily modified – increase the frequency of the output keys and replace some electronic components with higher quality ones to reduce distortion.
With dimensions of 22 x 4.4 x 24 cm and a weight of only 3 kg, the Mytek Brooklyn Amp has an impressive power of 250 W at eight ohms, 300 W at four, 400 W at two and a crazy 600 W in bridge mode. The protection system is triggered by a short circuit or the appearance of constant voltage at the output, current overload, overheating and a drop in supply voltage. By the way, the maximum current given to the load can reach 35 amperes.
The Mytek Brooklyn Amp has only two inputs – RCA and XLR. There is also an 8-position DIP switch on the back, which is used to set the operating modes: stereo, bridged or bi-amping, as well as to select the input, set the gain (0/+6 dB), activate the 12-volt trigger and the USB port. The latter is used to update the software that is responsible for the MytekControl control application (free to download from the manufacturer’s website) and the logo backlight on the front panel. It is amazing how many options the programmers have provided – five colors and 17 brightness gradations, and all this is selected by pressing the POWER button.
The Mytek Brooklyn AMP is an amazing amplifier. Despite its modest dimensions, it is capable of delivering high power and creating a large-scale, tonally balanced, rich, dynamic and detailed sound, and what is important is that it is suitable for different musical genres. Suitable partners for it would be the Mytek Brooklyn DAC+ or the recently released Mytek Brooklyn Bridge network player , which are made in a similar style, but it will work well with other components as well.
Small dimensions, as well as the provided bridge mode and the admissibility of connecting speakers using the bi-amping scheme, open up the possibility of using large and heavy acoustics without accompanying bulky electronics.
