Phasemation has introduced the PP-2200, a new moving-coil phono cartridge developed as the successor to the PP-2000. Previewed at HIGH END Vienna in June 2026, the new model features a substantially revised design centered on changes to its magnetic circuit.
A successor to the long-running PP-2000
The PP-2200 replaces the PP-2000, which had remained in production since 2015. During that extended run, the earlier cartridge was used as a reference model by other manufacturers and audio publications, giving its replacement a significant role in Phasemation’s analog product range.
Rather than continue producing the existing design, Phasemation opted for a comprehensive redesign. The decision followed growing difficulties related to the processing quality of individual parts, along with supply issues that made continued manufacture of the PP-2000 increasingly challenging.
The resulting PP-2200 is therefore more than a routine model update. It represents Phasemation’s response to changing production conditions while retaining the moving-coil cartridge format and the broader position established by its predecessor.

Redesigned magnetic circuit
The main technical change is a revised magnetic circuit. Phasemation says the new arrangement increases generation efficiency, addressing one of the fundamental stages in converting stylus movement into an electrical signal.
According to the company, the more efficient design is intended to reduce audible distortion and preserve finer musical information. Phasemation also says the cartridge should provide a stronger sense of presence within the reproduced soundstage.
These statements describe the engineering goals behind the PP-2200 rather than adding unrelated features or changing the cartridge’s basic role. The emphasis remains on refining signal generation through the cartridge’s internal magnetic structure.
From Vienna preview to Japanese release
Phasemation first showed the PP-2200 publicly at HIGH END Vienna in June 2026. That appearance preceded the formal Japanese launch, giving the new cartridge an international introduction before its domestic retail release.
Sales in Japan are scheduled to begin on September 10, 2026. The supplied pricing information places the cartridge at approximately $3,935. Availability and pricing for markets outside Japan have not been specified.
Positioned as a direct replacement
By assigning the PP-2200 as the direct successor to a model produced for more than a decade, Phasemation is making the revised magnetic circuit the central point of differentiation. The company’s stated priorities are improved generation efficiency, lower perceived distortion, finer detail reproduction and a more pronounced sense of presence.
The launch also marks a practical transition away from a design affected by manufacturing and supply constraints. Instead of attempting to preserve the PP-2000 unchanged, Phasemation has used the replacement cycle to reconsider the cartridge’s construction around current production realities.
The PP-2200 begins a new chapter for Phasemation’s moving-coil cartridge line, combining a direct replacement for the PP-2000 with a redesigned magnetic circuit. Its Japanese release is set for September 10, following its debut in Vienna.
