Huawei has officially unveiled its latest flagship earbuds, the FreeBuds Pro 5, a pair that could redefine what wireless audio can deliver. Now available for pre-order in China and set to launch later this month, the new model is being positioned as a serious challenger to Apple’s upcoming AirPods Pro 3 — and for good reason.

At the heart of the FreeBuds Pro 5 is Huawei’s groundbreaking NearLink Audio technology, making its debut in a consumer audio product. Huawei describes this as the start of a “new era of lossless audio,” and the specs suggest they might be right. NearLink enables blistering data transfer speeds of up to 12 Mbps, with lossless audio transmission up to 2.3 Mbps — far beyond what conventional Bluetooth can handle. Combined with support for Huawei’s advanced L2HC codec, listeners can expect cleaner highs, richer midrange, and deeper, distortion-free bass.
Beyond fidelity, NearLink is also about efficiency. Huawei claims up to 40% lower power consumption compared to current wireless protocols, which should translate to noticeably longer battery life. The FreeBuds Pro 5 are said to deliver up to 33 hours of total playback including the charging case — a solid step up from the previous generation.

Design-wise, Huawei has refined both aesthetics and function. The microphones have been repositioned for better active noise cancellation and improved voice pickup, suggesting stronger performance in noisy environments. The earbuds retain the sleek, premium look of the Pro line, but early images hint at smoother contours and subtle ergonomic tweaks for a more secure, comfortable fit.
More detailed specifications and global release information are expected soon, but one thing is clear: with the FreeBuds Pro 5, Huawei isn’t just chasing Apple — it’s setting the stage for a new benchmark in high-resolution, truly wireless sound.
