Bauer Audio has introduced the OM 25, a two-way floorstanding speaker created to mark the 25th anniversary of the Munich manufacturer. Its defining feature is an unconventional driver layout: the tweeter faces the listener from the front baffle, while the mid-bass unit is installed on top of the cabinet and radiates upward.

An Unusual Approach to Sound Dispersion

The OM 25’s architecture is intended to control how sound spreads through the listening room. According to Bauer Audio, positioning the mid-bass driver on the upper surface allows it to radiate evenly in both the horizontal plane and toward the space above the speaker. The company says this arrangement is designed to involve the room’s acoustics more deliberately, with the aim of producing a more realistic and spacious presentation.

Only the tweeter is visible from the front. The upward-facing mid-bass unit sits behind it on the cabinet’s top panel, while the floorstanding enclosure is supported by a contrasting black plinth. This configuration gives the OM 25 a notably different appearance from conventional speakers that place every driver on the front baffle.

Driver Alignment Targets Point-Source Behavior

Bauer Audio also describes the layout as an attempt to move the speaker closer to the behavior of an ideal point source. Inside the OM 25, the voice coils of the high-frequency and mid-bass drivers are positioned close to one another. Sound propagation begins directly in front of this closely grouped area, despite the drivers radiating in different directions.

The design therefore focuses not only on the visible orientation of the drive units but also on their internal physical relationship. Bauer Audio’s stated objective is to combine the direct output of the forward-facing tweeter with the broader room interaction created by the driver mounted above.

New SB Acoustics Drivers Replace the OM 2 Units

Both drive units are new compared with those used in the preceding OM 2. For the upward-firing mid-bass section, Bauer Audio has selected a driver from SB Acoustics’ Satori range. It uses an uncolored papyrus diaphragm that the manufacturer says is lighter and more rigid than the previous cone.

The high-frequency unit is also supplied by SB Acoustics, but it is made specifically for Bauer Audio. The tweeter combines an aluminum dome with a cast-aluminum faceplate. Bauer Audio says the new unit is intended to deliver more finely resolved treble than the tweeter fitted to the earlier model.

Together, the revised drivers and closely spaced voice coils form the core of the OM 25’s two-way design. No conventional front-mounted mid-bass driver is present, leaving the custom tweeter as the only active drive unit facing directly into the room from the speaker’s front panel.

Finishes, Warranty and Availability

The Bauer Audio OM 25 is available now as a pair of floorstanding speakers. Standard finish choices include walnut, wild oak and white, while additional versions can be requested from the manufacturer.

Bauer Audio supplies the OM 25 with a three-year warranty. The model serves both as a successor to the OM 2 and as an anniversary product highlighting the design approach developed by the Munich workshop over its first 25 years.

With its upward-firing Satori mid-bass driver, custom aluminum-dome tweeter and tightly grouped voice coils, the OM 25 presents a distinctive interpretation of the two-way floorstanding speaker. Its unconventional layout places dispersion and room interaction at the center of Bauer Audio’s anniversary design.
