Yamaha NS-777 is a three-way floor-standing speaker system featuring a bass-reflex design housed in a tower cabinet. Models from the EF (Elliptical Form) series incorporate Waveguide horn cones, woofers with PMD (Polymer-injected Mica Diaphragm) membranes, and premium internal wiring from Monster Cable, enabling them to effectively reproduce digital audio signals for both movie soundtracks and music. Additionally, the speaker’s elegant black polished finish is a hallmark of Yamaha’s design aesthetic.
The construction of the Yamaha NS-777 speakers utilizes 12 mm MDF boards, with enhanced rigidity provided by horizontal struts. The internal design minimizes the use of absorptive materials. The translucent membranes of the woofers and midrange driver are crafted from the proprietary PMD composite polymer.
The voice coils of the drivers are constructed using rectangular wire, while the midrange driver is internally dampened with a plastic cap. High frequencies are produced by a tweeter featuring an aluminum dome membrane and a diffusing lens. The crossover filters utilize non-polar electrolytic capacitors and ferrite core inductance coils. A prominent phase inverter port is located on the rear panel, and the speakers are supported by pointed feet with adjustable spikes.
The exceptional “wideband” dynamics represent the primary advantage of the large “Yamaha” model, forming the foundation of its captivating sound profile. The range between concert-level forte and piano closely mirrors natural acoustics, prompting an enthusiastic response of “I believe!” Additionally, the bass quality is outstanding—vivid, robust, and resonant. The tonal balance leans towards neutrality; any slight elevation in high frequencies, even in classical pieces, is not perceived negatively, and this is even more true for hard rock genres.
No adverse effects related to the characteristics of the measured frequency response were observed (refer to the technical commentary); however, the spatial representation may appear somewhat generalized. The NS-777 excels in delivering classical music with remarkable depth, energizing the listener with the vibrancy of rock tracks. This system serves as a formidable theatrical front.
