As it approaches four decades of loudspeaker design, Australian manufacturer Richter Audio has introduced the new Series 7 Special Edition (S7SE) lineup. Rather than a simple refresh, this new generation represents a clear step forward in both industrial design and acoustic engineering—aimed at listeners who want speakers that sound exceptional and look at home in modern living spaces.
Richter’s goal with the Series 7 Special Edition was straightforward but ambitious: create loudspeakers that deliver the brand’s signature musicality while blending naturally into contemporary interiors. The result is a new family of speakers that combines refined cabinet styling with serious acoustic performance.

Modern Design with Acoustic Purpose
Developed in collaboration with industrial designer Adam Hobbs and acoustic engineer Dr. Martin Gosnell, the S7SE series introduces softer cabinet lines and a more modern visual identity. The changes are not purely cosmetic. The revised geometry is designed to reduce unwanted resonances and allow the drivers to perform with greater freedom and control.
All models are finished in natural walnut veneer, giving the speakers a warm, furniture-grade appearance. It’s a clear move toward products that feel as comfortable in a living room as they do in a dedicated listening space.

Four Models for Different Rooms and Systems
The Series 7 Special Edition lineup consists of four models, each designed for a specific application:
-
Wizard S7SE – Advanced 3.5-way floorstander
-
Dragon S7SE – Full 4-way floorstanding design
-
Excalibur S7SE – Flagship 4.5-way system for large rooms
-
Aurora S7SE – Compact bookshelf model (expected Q2 2026)
The Wizard, Dragon, and Excalibur models are scheduled for release in February, while the Aurora is in the final stages of development.

New Drivers and Refined Crossover Design
Across the entire lineup, Richter introduces new proprietary drivers, a modernized cabinet structure, and an updated version of its signature SE Teardrop tweeter. A key technical change is the addition of a dedicated 70 mm dome driver for the upper midrange.
According to the company, this approach improves vocal clarity and instrumental texture while allowing smoother integration between the tweeter and bass sections.

Each model uses its own tailored multi-way architecture rather than relying solely on crossover tuning. This ensures that every speaker is optimized for its intended room size and listening scenario.
The new midrange and bass drivers feature lightweight, rigid cones mounted in cast aluminum baskets. Larger voice coils and increased excursion capability aim to deliver deeper, more controlled bass. The crossovers have also been redesigned with multi-stage circuits and separate networks for each driver, improving phase coherence and overall integration.
Pricing (per pair, USD)

With the Series 7 Special Edition, Richter Audio isn’t chasing flashy specifications or extreme design statements. Instead, the focus is on clarity, control, and emotional engagement—wrapped in cabinets that feel more like furniture than traditional hi-fi boxes.
As the brand moves toward its 40th anniversary, the S7SE series looks less like a nostalgic nod to the past and more like a confident step into the next chapter of Richter loudspeaker design.
