The design of the new product fully fits into the catalog, and the architecture and functionality have been updated in many ways: for example, Cambridge Audio claims that the circuitry of the digital section in this model was developed completely from scratch. The new product, which has a “dual mono” architecture, is equipped with a dual ESS Saber ES9028Q2M chipset.
It will enable Cambridge Audio’s flagship DacMagic 200M to process PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512. In addition, the DAC was the first Cambridge Audio device capable of decoding MQA. MQA is an award-winning British technology that not only captures every last detail of a recording, but also makes online streaming easy. For example, music streaming service TIDAL uses MQA technology to deliver master-quality audio. Listeners have three digital filters at their disposal, creating their own special sound options.
The Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M’s balanced and unbalanced analog outputs are complemented by a Class AB headphone amplifier with 6.3mm output. In addition to using traditional Class A/B amplification, the output impedance of the DacMagic 200M’s 6.3mm headphone jack has been reduced. This provides more power, less distortion, less noise and more precise audio control when listening through headphones.
Thanks to its extensive connectivity options, the DacMagic 200M can be integrated into any home audio system. Multiple digital inputs (two coaxial, two optical, one USB Type B) allow you to connect any number of digital sources, including laptops, CD players, game consoles and Blu-ray players.
Built-in Bluetooth aptX support means you can also transfer digital files from your smartphone or tablet wirelessly. The new product received a half-width metal body with an aluminum front panel. Measuring just 52 x 215 x 191mm and available in a sleek, minimalist Lunar Grey, the DacMagic 200M will fit neatly and discreetly into any space. Its compact size means it can fit into your existing audio system, on your home office desk, or on your TV stand.
The Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M DAC is equipped with three filtering functions: Linear Phase, Minimum Phase and Steep. The manufacturer recommends experimenting with filters and choosing the one that will provide optimal playback quality for each signal source or audio material. The Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M DAC remembers and uses the filter type separately for each input, so you can assign a high slope filter to the USB input, a linear phase filter to digital input 1, etc. The Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M is a truly versatile device that will bring the sound quality of your music files to true Hi-Fi levels.
