The 2025 tonearm series by AudioOrigami, a UK-based company, features the PU8, PU7 ALLOY, and PU7 Titanium models. These tonearms are offered in both nine-inch and twelve-inch lengths, with the option for custom lengths as well. Customers have the flexibility to select from various mounting options, and AudioOrigami provides a selection of arm heads along with a meta-material arm damping system.
Meta-Material Arm Damping System (MMADS)
All tonearm tubes experience resonance, irrespective of the materials used in their construction. Vibrations generated by the stylus, along with air resonance, propagate through the arm tube and internal wiring, increasing the noise floor and impacting the signal received by the cartridge. This phenomenon is inevitable.
Audio Origami has developed an innovative approach to damping arm tubes, ensuring optimal damping and resonance management. The MMADS system features a tunnel integrated within the arm tube, constructed from a material that allows the internal wiring to remain suspended, thereby minimizing resonance interference with the cables. This tunnel is held in place by ultra-thin flanges made from a material that effectively isolates vibrations.
In contrast to traditional damping solutions like foam or rubber, which can muffle sound, Audio Origami asserts that MMADS enhances audio quality. It significantly reduces the noise floor, allowing listeners to enjoy greater clarity and a more open sound from their records.
