Jamo D 590 50th Anniversary are large three-way speaker systems with rounded sides and a midrange/high-frequency section built according to the D’Appolito design. The high frequencies are handled by a one-inch tweeter recessed into the WaveGuide horn, while the midrange is handled by two five-inch speakers with woven fiberglass diffusers. The lows are handled by a downward-firing eight-inch woofer with the same diffuser.

But before moving on to a specific model, let’s remember the glorious path of the company. From a tiny company founded by carpenter Preben Jacobsen in 1966, it has grown into today’s largest acoustics corporation. Perhaps such a rapid rise is due to the entrepreneurial spirit of Julius Mortensen, the second founder of Jamo, but the subtle instincts of Jamo engineers, a clear understanding of the ultimate goal and the right choice of means to achieve it also played a role here.

Now through the prism of history you can look at the Jamo D 590 50th Anniversary. I would describe this design in three words: rational, modern, thorough. Take the body, for example. It has an extremely narrowed front panel, which should have a favorable effect on the sound stage, but at the same time, due to the convex and internally reinforced sidewalls, it has a huge internal volume, which is necessary for a 20-centimeter woofer (installed in the bottom). A silk 25mm tweeter and a pair of midrange drivers with responsive, lightweight cones made from a modern woven composite are installed according to the D’Apolito design. The bass reflex port is located on the rear wall. The high-quality speaker terminals located at the bottom allow for two-way connection. The upper surface is polished to a high shine, which gives the large-sized acoustics a very elegant look.

The Jamo D 590 50th Anniversary speakers fully justify their name – their absolute dynamics are comparable to real concert levels. And what is especially pleasant is that even at very high volumes they do not lose their musicality – they do not tire the ear, but are able to shake up the drive. At medium volume, “Concerts” will not let you down either. The musical balance is slightly shifted towards the mids and highs, which makes the sound seem more optimistic and cheerful than usual, but the stage captivates with real depth. The space is not flattened in front of the listener, but visibly goes back and is divided according to planes. There are no problems with bass either – the speakers with commendable linearity operate in the main range and easily go into the infra-bass, where not every subwoofer can reach. But the quantity of bass still dominates the quality: the color of large drums is slightly distorted, and in higher and more complex basses the structure is not always visible. We gave these speakers a “good” rating for detail and harmonic resolution. In the vocal section, the Jamo D 590 50th Anniversary pulls out a lot of information and puts it into an ear-pleasing form – the nuances of the performance are recognizable and clearly distinguishable. On some music programs, the top band may not be too melodic, but not a single nuance is hidden.

Although the Jamo D 590 50th Anniversary are manufactured in the East, they have a Danish acoustic tradition in their voice. The sound stage is distinguished by such clarity of plans that one could not wish for anything better. The acoustics undistortedly reproduce the most complex instruments in terms of timbre – there are no boxy or resonant overtones in the sound. And the upper band, judging by how clearly and informatively the atmosphere of the recording is conveyed, has a commendably linear appearance above 10 kHz.

The anniversary model received the “Jamo 50th Anniversary” logo, and on the back wall of the acoustics there is a polished aluminum plate with the acoustics number engraved on it: in total, the company produced 500 pairs of anniversary speakers. The model is available in black ash veneer and walnut veneer, and is equipped with magnetic tweed grilles.
