Majority Audio is expanding its footprint in the affordable hi-fi segment with the launch of the Majority D100X, an active bookshelf speaker system that combines modern connectivity with a compact, desktop-friendly form factor. Positioned as a versatile all-in-one solution, the D100X targets users who want a simplified setup without sacrificing core audio functionality.

Compact active design with full system integration

The Majority D100X is designed as a self-powered stereo pair, eliminating the need for an external amplifier. Despite its relatively small enclosure, the system is rated at up to 100 watts of output power, placing it firmly in the category of high-performance desktop and entry-level living room systems.

Driver construction plays a central role in the D100X’s acoustic profile. The speakers utilize carbon fiber cones, a material typically chosen for its balance of stiffness and low mass. This approach aims to reduce unwanted resonance while maintaining transient accuracy, resulting in tighter bass response and improved clarity across the midrange.

Modern connectivity, including HDMI ARC and phono input

Connectivity is where the D100X positions itself aggressively against more expensive alternatives. Wireless streaming is handled via Bluetooth 5.3, offering improved stability, lower latency, and better power efficiency compared to earlier standards.

On the wired side, the inclusion of HDMI ARC is notable at this price point. This allows the speakers to integrate directly with a TV, supporting volume control via the TV remote and simplifying cable management. Additional inputs include optical, AUX, and RCA, covering most digital and analog sources.

Unusually for this segment, Majority has also included a dedicated phono input. This enables direct connection of a turntable without requiring an external phono stage, broadening the D100X’s appeal to vinyl users looking for a minimal, space-saving setup.

User-adjustable sound tuning and EQ modes

The D100X incorporates onboard tone controls for bass and treble, allowing users to tailor the sound signature to their environment or preferences. Beyond manual adjustment, the system also includes preset EQ modes designed for specific use cases.

One of the more practical implementations is a dialogue enhancement mode, intended for TV and movie playback when connected via HDMI ARC or optical input. This reflects a growing trend in compact speaker systems, where versatility across music, film, and gaming is becoming a key selling point.

Positioned below established competitors

The launch of the D100X comes at a time when the compact active speaker market is becoming increasingly competitive. Models such as the Onkyo GX30-ARC, Philips Fidelio FA3, and Ruark MR1 Mk3 have set a strong benchmark for performance and design in this category.

Where the Majority D100X aims to differentiate itself is in value. With a reported retail price of £129 in the UK, it significantly undercuts many of its direct competitors while still offering features like HDMI ARC and a built-in phono stage, both of which are often absent or reserved for higher price tiers.
