Denon DRA-F109: Stereo receiver boasting a wide range of functions

Denon DRA-F109
Denon DRA-F109

The Denon D-F109 system builds upon its predecessor, the D-F107, which garnered acclaim for its exceptional sound quality and the premium finish of its aluminum front panel components. The updated system now features not only a stereo receiver but also a network audio player, the DNP-F109. Users can easily manage the system through advanced applications for iOS and Android, or by utilizing the included remote control.

The Denon DRA-F109 is a compact stereo receiver designed with careful consideration and offers a diverse array of features, making it an excellent foundation for a high-quality stereo setup. It incorporates Denon’s proprietary Signal Level Divided Construction technology, which effectively separates high-current and low-current circuits to minimize potential interference. This technology is also found in Denon’s high-end components, significantly enhancing the overall sound quality. The receiver delivers an output power of 2 x 64 watts when paired with 4-ohm speakers, operating in an efficient Class D mode. This allows it to function well with both bookshelf and compact floor-standing speakers. The receiver is compatible with speakers that have an impedance ranging from 4 to 16 ohms. However, for optimal performance in larger spaces with a subwoofer, the Denon DRA-F109 includes a dedicated connector for that purpose.

The rear panel of the receiver has inputs for connecting two linear signal sources, as well as two coaxial and one optical inputs. The manufacturer recommends connecting the DCD-F109 player and DNP-F109 media player to these digital inputs, which form a complete system together with the stereo receiver. There is also a switched network socket (it can be useful for connecting any device that needs to be turned on and off simultaneously with the receiver), as well as high-quality screw circuits for acoustics.

The Denon DRA-F109 aluminum front panel features a minimal set of controls, a headphone jack, and a two-line matrix display that displays all the necessary information. All receiver functions can be controlled using the remote control (it can also be used to control other Denon components), including bass and treble tone control, stereo balance, a switchable SDB bass boost system, a clock, and an auto-off timer. The built-in tuner operates in the FM and MW ranges and can receive RDS.
