The NAD company was founded in the UK (London) in 1972 by Martin Borisch, as an association of seven large European distributors concerned about the lack of simple audio devices with high-quality sound (Hi-Fi class) on the market with really demanded performance characteristics and accessible to a wide range of audiophiles and music lovers ( developed by NAD). In 1991 the business was acquired by AudioNord and in 1999 they became part of the Lenbrook Group of Pickering in Ontario, Canada.

NAD was able to offer customers a new approach to Hi-Fi equipment, which resulted in low prices for high-quality equipment, equipping the devices with truly necessary functions, and a simple but elegant design. The company remains true to this approach today. The company was looking for both the best solutions and the most professional audio engineers. In particular, a well-known professional in the creation of acoustic equipment, Bjorn Erik Edvardsen, made a significant contribution to the development of the company. The company appreciated his merits so highly that the best products, to the creation of which this engineering master had a hand, are marked with a special BEE index (by the name of the specialist).

Thus, the new product development department has been led for many years by the legendary audio engineer Bjorn Erik Edvardsen, whose innovative developments formed the basis of many of NAD’s unique technologies and models. The ideology of the NAD company, focused on the production of high-quality equipment with an emphasis on the really popular performance characteristics of the equipment, originates in the history of NAD.  One of the company’s first developments was the now legendary NAD 3020 transistor amplifier. When all transistor amplifier manufacturers were competing with each other for output power, paying insufficient attention to signal quality, NAD focused its development efforts on sound quality, and the results obtained fully justified this approach.

In 1974, NAD developed the concept of a “virtual” factory to manufacture electronic equipment of the required specifications by placing orders for the production and subsequent assembly of individual electronic components from various, well-established electronic equipment manufacturers around the world. Thus, NAD became one of the first equipment manufacturing companies without its own manufacturing facilities. The key to NAD’s success is the maximum investment in development, which almost always results in achieving the maximum quality of operation of the equipment. All the resources that usually go into showcasing appearance are used in NAD equipment to achieve the highest quality internal components.

NAD Performance Capabilities In audio electronics, the bottom line is that the audio signals entering the speaker system closely match those directly produced by recording and broadcast microphones.  The resulting sound signals should have the same temporal and dynamic characteristics as the original ones. Without embellishment, we can say that all NAD components are designed to fulfill these requirements. The process of obtaining quality audio can become extremely difficult. As your needs move from pure live sound to immersive sound, more and more subtle and important details should work just fine. This requires a lot of attention. NAD provides this attention at every stage, from design concept to delivery of the final product into the consumer’s living room, and then ensuring the longevity of the equipment.

We want to make it clear that all NAD components, at every level, are designed and manufactured to perform well – to reproduce real sound realistically, accurately and convincingly. NAD Cost We are in business to serve smart people who want to buy what they need, not what their vehicles can handle. A fundamental tenet of the NAD philosophy is that a good idea never comes at the expense of the listener. We mobilize ingenuity rather than money for new projects. Once we’ve determined the price point at which NAD can make significant improvements in the performance of its equipment, we focus on developing what we want from it as listeners. And the goal of NAD technology is to delight people in their homes rather than attract them to showrooms. We want you to know that you will get satisfaction right away, instead of having to endlessly search to achieve it. (In our opinion, you can get more out of “improvement” without trying to compensate for it with too little.) We always hope that NAD customers will be pleasantly surprised to find more benefits than they bargained for.

The key to NAD’s success is the maximum investment in development, which almost always results in achieving the maximum quality of operation of the equipment. NAD Simplicity Complexity is the enemy of good audio performance, and therefore NAD. Every step towards increasing complexity in electronics is a new chance to make it worse, that is, to produce something that worsens the final sound quality, and this creates the possibility of choosing the wrong direction on the way to the listener. NAD has always believed that unnecessary complexity and cost lead to unnecessary distortion in the performance of technology. Seizing every opportunity to achieve sustainable operational capabilities, NAD seeks and finds the direct path when others settle for the circuitous. The result is a sound of superb clarity, and quality-conscious people don’t lose sight of these details. They also pay attention to the level of acoustic performance of NAD products, which is a direct result of our policy.

The simplicity of NAD has two other key benefits. The first advantage of NAD is that it is easier and more enjoyable to achieve optimal real-time audio performance when you can achieve it simply and directly without a plethora of buttons or “functions” that are difficult to understand without a specialist. The second advantage of NAD is the special pleasure of getting great sound from a modest piece of audio equipment. One look at the simple, charcoal gray front panel of classic NAD components will tell you that “modest” is definitely NAD.  As for operational capabilities, they are far from modest. All the resources that usually go into showcasing appearance are used in NAD equipment to achieve the highest quality internal components. Inside our gray boxes you will find components that you would only see on very expensive equipment. NAD focuses on the content of its technique and you can hear the results.
