The Contour range of loudspeakers has been completely redesigned using advanced acoustic technologies that have been borrowed from the flagship Confidence series of speakers. Among the many improvements, all models are equipped with a new Esotar 2i tweeter with a clever Hexis internal dome for suppressing resonances, as well as a larger rear chamber. This has reduced distortion and achieved a smoother frequency response. Overall, the engineers have managed to achieve an improvement in sound quality due to an improved tweeter and woofers, increased internal damping, a new crossover and a change in the design of the cabinet.
With the updated Contour series, Dunaudio aimed to preserve the character of these speakers. But they also wanted to add something new – so Dynaudio engineers freely experimented with different materials, designs and technologies. The result is an entirely new Contour series. With new drivers, a new crossover, a new front panel (also made of solid metal, as always in the Contour series) and a new cabinet with rounded contours.
All new Contour models feature new drivers. They were developed using the Finite Element Method, which allows us to analyze all moving parts and improve them where possible. Thanks to this method, we added an additional wave on the centering washers to optimize their symmetrical movement. And this is just one of many innovations in the drivers: a new magnet system, a thinner cone made of magnesium silicate polymer, an increased winding height … even the glue between the cone and the voice coil is new! The combination of these new technologies allows us to preserve the classic Contour sound (and especially the exquisite midrange) while significantly improving the bass response.
The Contour’s front panel has also been redesigned. In the previous version, it was made from a solid piece of steel with straight edges. Now the front panel is made from aluminum, and its edges are rounded. This means that with less weight, better suppression of unwanted vibrations is achieved.
You will undoubtedly notice the cabinet with rounded edges. This is not done for the sake of design (although it looks elegant). Rounded shapes help to increase the rigidity of the structure and reduce vibrations and resonances. Like all Dynaudio speakers, Contour is made with the highest level of craftsmanship. And, of course, by hand. The manufacture of one cabinet takes more than two weeks: sawing, varnishing, cleaning, polishing. Four exquisite types of finish will make Contour a decoration of any interior.
Dynaudio Contour 30i is a junior 2.5-way floor model from the updated Contour series designed for work in medium-sized rooms. MDF is used as the material for the Dynaudio Contour 30i case. Its facade is decorated with a thick aluminum plate with rounded edges, to which all the emitters are attached. The plate helps to minimize unwanted vibrations and resonances. The elegant case attracts attention with its smooth, neat design and high-quality finish with a multi-layer lacquer coating, and also has excellent damping (struts and special plates are installed inside). The sides received a curved shape, thanks to which the developers managed to improve the anidiffraction properties of the speaker system and minimize the risk of internal standing waves. Two bass reflex ports are located in the rear of the Dynaudio Contour 30i. A pair of WBT screw terminals are used to connect the cable. The speaker is equipped with legs protruding beyond the body, into which adjustable spikes are built.
The high-frequency spectrum is voiced by the legendary branded tweeter Esotar 2i, the dome of which is made of fabric and has a special coating. Ferromagnetic fluid is used for cooling and damping. The tweeter guarantees a clean, transparent sound and allows for high power delivery. To transmit the rest of the frequency range, two drivers with a diameter of 180 mm are used, which have an increased stroke of the moving system. Their diffusers are made of rigid magnesium-silicate polymer and have unequal thickness, due to which it is possible to get rid of unwanted bends of the membrane. In the process of designing the drivers, the FEM method (finite element method) was used, with the help of which the moving parts of the emitter are analyzed in order to improve them. As a result, a double ferrite magnetic system with optimized ventilation was used and the centering washer was improved. The design also uses large coils of large diameter with aluminum wire and an increased winding height. The result is a superbly detailed midrange and excellent low-frequency response. The crossover uses high-end components (including Mundorf capacitors) and new internal wiring, which, according to the Danish company, has had a positive effect on the quality of the bass.
