A complete home theater kit (excluding TV and signal sources), the Onkyo HT-S5915 consists of a set of speakers and an AV receiver. The peculiarity of the system is that it allows you to reproduce sound not only in common 5.1 formats, but also in the latest Dolby Atmos, in a 5.1.2 configuration.
The TX-SR494 receiver included in the Onkyo HT-S5915 has seven channels of audio amplification with a power of 100 W each – five for main acoustics and two for high-altitude. The AV receiver is equipped with decoders for all common surround sound formats, has a 32-bit DSP with four audio processing modes, and all its channels are equipped with Burr-Brown DACs with 24-bit / 192 kHz parameters.
The AV receiver is equipped with four HDMI inputs and one output, with the ability to transmit a 4K UHD signal including Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. In this model, it was decided to abandon component video inputs and outputs, which simplified the placement of connectors on the rear panel. The device also has three analog and two digital inputs. Screw terminals are used to connect front stereo acoustics, while spring terminals are used for the center, rear and side speakers. This is a completely acceptable solution for AV receivers in this price category.
At the same time, the Onkyo TX-SR494 is equipped with an automatic ambient sound calibration system, AccuEQ Room Calibration, which has not previously been found in models of this price. The device is equipped with HD surround sound format decoders and high-quality modern DACs from Burr Brown. There is a flexible crossover setting for the subwoofer, tone controls in the bass and treble areas, as well as Bluetooth for connecting mobile devices. You can control the operation of the Onkyo TX-SR494 using the informative display on the front panel or convenient on-screen graphics. The new on-screen display will show you audio and video data, including HDR format, video resolution, frame rate and audio codec, attached to the incoming signal.
The power amplifiers in the AV receiver are made of discrete components using proprietary WRAT technology and are able to cope even with complex speaker systems. The device has a completely universal sound character for listening to music of various genres, and when watching movies it is able to accurately convey the most energetic special effects.
The power supply is built on the basis of a high-power HCPS network transformer, and the power amplifiers are made using a patented wideband circuit and have discrete output stages. The AV receiver is equipped with an AccuEQ auto-calibration system for surround sound, an Advanced Music Optimizer circuit for improving the sound quality of compressed recordings, an AM/FM tuner, a Bluetooth receiver, and a special connector for connecting the STRM Box smart module. The receiver has a headphone output, tone control and a direct audio signal mode, bypassing all auxiliary circuits.
The system’s acoustics are small in size for convenient placement in the listening room, and at the same time capable of providing rich and dynamic sound. The basis of the set is a front stereo pair, the speakers of which have a combined design. The main section, consisting of a 25 mm balanced dome tweeter and a 120 mm woofer, provides stereo channels. An additional one, formed by an 80 mm wideband driver, is directed at an upward angle to form Dolby Atmos high-altitude channels. The Onkyo HT-S5915 also includes a speaker for the center channel, as well as a pair of rear speakers and a subwoofer with a floor-firing 200mm woofer.
