Roksan

Roksan is a British brand with a 30-year history that produces everything for audio: digital and analog players, different types of amplifiers, speaker systems, cables and accessories. In the audio components market, Roksan products have always been famous for their excellent quality-to-price ratio; in this field, the Kandy family of devices especially stands out, which for many years have occupied a leading position among components in the mid-price segment.

The Roksan factory was founded in 1985 by two young London University graduates, two obsessive audiophiles looking in the same direction. The first product released by Roksan was the Xerxes vinyl record player with a subplatform with a special vibration-acoustic decoupling, which became a breakthrough for its time and is still considered Roksan’s most legendary creation.

The Roksan Xerxes record player was first introduced to the world in 1985, when CDs cost around £12 and vinyl would have been consigned to landfill as an obsolete format. A lot has changed since then. Vinyl is back on record store shelves, CD sales are in decline, and Xerxes is still as great as ever and is gearing up to celebrate its 30th anniversary in the not-too-distant future. Xerxes 20 plus is the most modern and, we hope, not the last, modification of the legendary turntable. A disc for a vinyl record consists of two parts: a central smaller diameter, which is driven by a motor, and an outer part of a larger diameter, which is put on the first. The design is the same as the original 1985 model, so any Xerxes can be upgraded to the Xerxes 20 plus by installing different tonearms, power supplies and pickups. Xerxes is a construction set, the details of which everyone can choose to suit their taste.

The Xerxes was Roksan’s debut model in the hi-fi market in 1985, but the design and sound quality give the impression that the model was built by a company with many years of experience in the industry. Following the first turntable, Roksan, still based in England, released its first loudspeaker systems, the Ojan 3 and Hot Cake, in between developing audio electronics with classic British performance and aesthetic appeal – features that were present in the company’s work before so far.

1998 was marked for Roksan with the release of the famous Caspian series, which significantly contributed to the success of the company and introduced it to many audio enthusiasts. The Kandy line, positioned as a series of high-quality but affordable entry-level devices, was launched by Roksan in 2000 – with it the brand received final international recognition. In 2003, the company’s second vinyl player, Radius 5, and the proprietary Nima tonearm, were released, appreciated as experts and users alike, and two years later, just in time for the 30th anniversary of the brand, the classic Xerxes was modernized and updated to Xerxes.20.

Perhaps the next significant stage of development was the Oxygene series – devices unique in their lifestyle design, impeccable assembly and audiophile design. In 2014, Roksan launches the K3 series, which fans of the brand are eagerly awaiting. Along with the expansion of the range, various modifications also occur in already classic devices – amplifiers and CD players. Work is underway on the creation of wireless sources, “streaming” technology: as the head of Roksan Tufan Hashemi says, “as with all our products, wireless devices will be distinguished by the highest build quality and meet the requirements of the time exactly as much as the sound requirements of the most picky audiophiles ” Well, vinyl production – turntables, cartridges and tonearms – are still as important a part of Roksan production as they were 30 years ago; vinyl has long proven that it has lived, is alive and will live.

Roksan’s general slogan regarding its development can be formulated something like this: stick to its audiophile roots, but explore new markets – “the future of hi-fi lies in small sizes and digital solutions.” Of course, none of this would have happened if it weren’t for the passionate love of music – it is this that pushes the entire company team to expand the range of products in order to please all music lovers: fans of vinyl, CDs, and streaming.
