Samsung HW-QS700F Soundbar Review: Premium Performance Without the Premium Price

Samsung HW-QS700F Review
Samsung HW-QS700F Review

Samsung offers an extensive range of soundbars—from ultra-slim, minimalist models to full-size home theater setups. The Samsung HW-QS700F strikes a perfect balance. As part of Samsung’s premium Q-series (like the flagship HW-Q995F), it delivers high-end audio at a more accessible price. At around $850 USD, it’s priced similarly to the sleek and compact HW-S800D, designed to be heard but not seen.

Refined Design With Flexibility in Mind

One of the most notable upgrades from last year’s Q700D is the rotating design. Thanks to a built-in gyroscope, the QS700F can be mounted horizontally under a TV or vertically on a wall, with the sound auto-adjusting based on its orientation—no manual tweaks required.

One of the biggest changes from last year's Q700D is the new swivel design.

The soundbar sports a more modern and minimalist look this year, with rounded corners, a soft black finish, and a redesigned top featuring a striped metal grille. The rubberized control panel on top remains familiar—offering playback, volume, and mic controls—but appears slightly more compact than on previous models.

Despite its slimmer profile, the soundbar includes a central speaker, two full-range drivers, and two up-firing speakers. All ports are neatly recessed underneath for clean cable management whether wall-mounted or placed on a TV stand. Notably absent is an LED display—replaced by voice prompts—which might be a downside for those who like visual feedback.

A Smaller, Smarter Subwoofer

The included wireless subwoofer is a standout upgrade. It’s about half the size of the previous model and now features a 6.5-inch active driver with an 8-inch passive radiator, all in a sharp black finish. Samsung claims the compact design helps reduce unwanted vibrations and enhances bass clarity. However, there’s no grille cover on the driver—something to keep in mind if you have curious pets or young kids.

In terms of design, the Samsung HW-QS700F soundbar looks elegant.

Easy Setup and Smart Features

Getting started with the HW-QS700F is simple. Plug in via HDMI eARC, and the subwoofer pairs automatically. The Samsung SmartThings app is essential for fine-tuning sound modes, adjusting levels, and connecting the system to your home Wi-Fi.

The soundbar supports several audio modes: Standard, Surround, Game Pro, and Adaptive Sound, which analyzes content in real-time to adjust the sound profile. There’s also SpaceFit Sound Pro, Samsung’s automatic room calibration system that adjusts audio based on your space—leave this on for the best results.

The soundbar itself consists of a central speaker, two full-range drivers, and two upward-firing speakers.

Performance: Room-Filling Sound in a Compact Package

While smaller than the HW-Q995F, the QS700F still delivers impressive clarity and balance. Dialogue is crisp—even during quiet, dialogue-heavy movie scenes—and the voice enhancement feature makes it easy to follow conversations without constantly adjusting the volume.

Though it can’t fully match the 360° surround experience of a full home theater setup, the up-firing and side speakers do a commendable job of expanding the soundstage. For a 3.1.2-channel system, the level of immersion is surprisingly high.

Great for Music, Too

Music playback is equally impressive. Vocals are clean, instrumentals are well-separated, and the bass has real punch considering the subwoofer’s compact size. The soundbar comfortably fills a medium-to-large room without distortion or muddiness.

Innovative Gyroscope for Dual Mounting

A standout feature of the HW-QS700F is its gyroscope-enabled dual orientation. When wall-mounted vertically, the top panel becomes the new front—switching roles with the forward-facing speakers. Audio performance remains consistent in both positions, offering flexibility for different room layouts without compromising sound quality.

Immersive Audio Support and Modern Connectivity

The HW-QS700F is a 3.1.2-channel system with support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and the new Eclipsa Audio format co-developed by Samsung and Google. Eclipsa aims to rival Dolby Atmos with spatial audio tuned for streaming and smart devices.

Connectivity is future-proof:

  • 1 HDMI input + 1 HDMI ARC/eARC output

  • Optical input

  • Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)

  • AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect

You can also connect a media player or gaming console directly to the bar thanks to the HDMI passthrough.
