The German company AVM Audio introduced two new network players with a CD drive in the Evolution series – MP 3.3 and MP 5.3 . The models differ in analog output stage – if in Evolution MP 3.3 the output stage is made on transistors, then in Evolution MP 5.3 it is implemented on lamps. Both models are equipped with a volume control and can be used as a pre-amplifier.
The Evolution MP 5.3 and MP 3.3 players from AVM Audio can be integrated into a computer network either wired via Ethernet (100 Mbps) or Wi-Fi (2.4 / 5 GHz, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac) . In addition, there is a Bluetooth 4.2 adapter for live music streaming from mobile gadgets.
The switching arsenal of new products includes three digital inputs – coaxial, optical and HDMI ARC port , as well as coaxial and optical digital outputs for connection to an external DAC unit. Audio files can also be played from external USB drives labeled with FAT, FAT32 or NTFS.
The Evolution MP 5.3 and MP 3.3 players are capable of decoding PCM audio files up to 32bit/384kHz or DSD up to DSD256. Resolution is limited to 24bit/96kHz from optical input, and 24bit/192kHz from coaxial and HDMI. Similar restrictions apply to digital outputs. Also, new items are able to provide access to many popular streaming services, including Qobuz, Spotify and TIDAL. The streamers are certified to work in the Roon ecosystem.
Analog switching is presented as balanced outputs on XLR connectors, as well as unbalanced on RCA. Moreover, there are two unbalanced outputs – in addition to the regulated one, there is also a linear one for connecting analog recording devices, for example, a tape recorder.
The almost complete absence of controls on the front panel (there is only a power button and a CD eject button) is compensated by the stylish RC 3 aluminum remote control, which AVM Audio usually offers as an option.
AVM Audio’s Evolution MP 5.3 and MP 3.3 network players are available in black, silver or luxurious Cellini chrome finishes . The players will go on sale at the end of February 2023. The suggested retail price of the turntables in black and silver is 5,990 euros for the AVM Evolution MP 3.3 and 7,490 euros for the AVM Evolution MP 5.3 . The Cellini finish will add another 800 euros to the price .
