Ruark Audio has been established since 1985 and asserts that the active MR1 Mk3 provides exceptional sound quality in a beautifully compact design. The master/slave system boasts improved USB audio and Bluetooth features, as stated by the manufacturer, ensuring effortless connectivity to various devices.
According to Ruark Audio, the MR1 Mk3 reflects the manufacturer’s heritage, combining over forty years of acoustic expertise into a beautifully crafted loudspeaker system. The wooden cabinet is given a refined look by detailed beveled front edges and new Slate Grey cloth grilles.
The MR1 Mk3’s enclosure is slightly larger than its predecessors, measuring 185 x 135 x 155 millimeters (H x W x D), to allow for optimum volume from Ruark’s new NS+ bass/mid drivers. Class D amplifier technology is borrowed from Ruark Audio’s R410 all-in-one .
The new drivers and larger cabinet have necessitated a comprehensive review of the crossover and careful tuning of the bass reflex system. According to the manufacturer, this has resulted in a significant improvement in acoustic performance, with the MR1 Mk3’s 85mm long-throw woofer with treated natural fibre cone delivering deeper, more controlled bass, plus a clear mid-range and exceptional detail from Ruark’s bespoke 20mm silk-dome tweeters.
Of course, the MR1 Mk3 supports AptX HD Bluetooth connectivity. The MR1 Mk3 also offers a USB-C input, a combined optical/jack input and a turntable input for MM cartridges. If the bass reproduction is too bare, you can use the subwoofer output to connect an active subwoofer, such as the Ruark Audio RS1, which matches the MR1 Mk3 well with its appearance.
