The McIntosh MI502 uses closed-loop digital switching technology and fault-tolerant power supplies. The MI502 can be configured to power the front left and right speakers in a home theater system or two in-wall subwoofers. A pair of amplifiers can drive the home theater's three front channels plus one subwoofer.

You can also use multiple MI502s for a distributed home audio system, since the device is rack-mountable in a 2U height and does not require noisy cooling fans. Also on board is a 12-volt McIntosh Power Control starting system. The rear panel of the MI502 features a pair of balanced and unbalanced inputs for connecting to preamps, as well as a pair of standard McIntosh five-pin terminals for connecting loads.
