Google Pay will be able to store and display COVID-19 vaccination cards

Google announced that the Google Pay app can now save COVID-19 vaccination cards on Android smartphones and present them when needed. The functionality will first go live in the US for some healthcare providers who are expected to add support for the updated Passes API to their digital vaccination cards.

Users will be able to create a shortcut on the smartphone desktop to have quick access to the vaccination card via Google Pay. To ensure the confidentiality of medical information, you will need to enter your PIN-code or authorize using biometric identification means.

Google’s example shows that the COVID-19 vaccination card is issued by Healthvana, which serves Los Angeles County. It contains all the information you need to vaccinate the user.

Google notes that Google Pay will be able to store vaccination cards in other countries over time.
