The Amazing Spider-Man duo remains one of the most controversial chapters in Spider-Man cinematic history. Although the films received mixed reviews, many fans have retained a special fondness for Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker – an actor who managed to give the character a more vulnerable and human touch.
But for those who were hoping for a comeback, now comes bad news.
“It’s not going to happen”
In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, Garfield was asked about the rumors that have been circulating for months – namely that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is allegedly in secret development.
Garfield answered briefly but clearly:
“It’s not happening, and I don’t think it ever will. But it’s very kind of you to want it.”
With that, he put a final stop to speculation that Sony was planning to revive his version of Spider-Man.
Why the trilogy was never completed
The two films – The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) – were released with great expectations following Sam Raimi’s successful trilogy. But despite Garfield’s strong performance and modern visual style, the films were met with mixed reviews and waning audience interest.

Andrew Garfield is right: “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” is unlikely
-
The Amazing Spider-Man grossed around 757 million USD globally.
-
The sequel fell to around 709 million USD – a clear sign that audiences were not as engaged.
The result was that Sony dropped plans for both a third film and several planned spin-offs such as Sinister Six and Venom (which were later rebooted in a new form).
The Marvel collaboration changed everything
Sony instead entered into a partnership with Marvel Studios, which would prove to be extremely profitable.
The new version of Spider-Man – played by Tom Holland – received a much better reception:
-
Spider-Man: Homecoming grossed over 880 million USD
-
No Way Home became a global mega-success with over USD 1.9 billion
This success cemented Holland’s position as the “official” Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while finally allowing Sony to make a big profit from its licensed hero.
A little hope for the fans?
Even though Garfield rejects the idea of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 , that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll never see him again.
Following his tribute appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, several industry sources have suggested that he could appear in the upcoming Avengers film – perhaps in a cameo or as part of a larger multiverse scenario.
But one thing is certain: a separate trilogy is out of the question for Garfield himself.
“I had my time as Spider-Man, and I’m incredibly grateful for it. But everything comes to an end,” he concluded.
