Sennheiser HD 500 BAM: Microphone that transforms audiophile headphones into comprehensive gaming headsets

German headphone manufacturer Sennheiser has officially unveiled the HD 500 BAM, a boom microphone designed to elevate the existing HD 500 series of audiophile headphones into a formidable gaming tool. This microphone connects effortlessly to the headphones’ inline port, providing gamers, audiophiles, and general professionals with a high-quality microphone option.

Thanks to its broad compatibility with laptops, desktops, game consoles, and select mobile devices, the add-on accessory is an instant upgrade for both new and existing Sennheiser headphones that use a single-sided twist-lock connector. The HD 500 BAM is compatible with the latest HD 550 , HD 505 , and HD 560S , as well as older headphones from the 5×8 series and the closed-back HD 620s . According to the manufacturer, audio purists no longer have to choose between exceptional listening quality and precise voice communication.

“Gamers raved about the extra comfort and immersive listening experience of their 500 series headphones, but the lack of a microphone option meant a compromise,” explains Klaus Hanselmann, Audiophile Product Manager. “With the HD 500 BAM, we’ve created a sleek, durable, and great-sounding way to boost both your output and your input. It’s the perfect complement to your everyday headphones, and a powerful accessory for anyone seeking a total audio upgrade.”

At the heart of the HD 500 BAM is a 10mm electret condenser capsule with a cardioid pickup pattern that delivers exceptional voice clarity. The cardioid design suppresses disruptive noise from nearby fans, devices, and people that would otherwise disrupt the gaming experience. For gamers accustomed to switching headsets or using separate components for listening and speaking, switching from headphones to only listen to an integrated microphone is no longer a burden. The HD 500 BAM offers a streamlined solution that handles crystal-clear audio in both directions, whether you’re in the middle of a match or on a crucial Teams call.

According to its designers, the HD 500 series has always been a favorite among gamers, praised for its hyperrealistic acoustics, immersive panoramic soundstage, and ultra-lightweight build. For competitive players, its precise audio reproduction can provide a competitive edge through location indicators. The HD 500 BAM delivers a premium voice experience without the need for additional microphone stands or interfaces.

To ensure flexibility across a wide range of devices, the HD 500 BAM uses a 4-pole 3.5mm plug with CTIA wiring. An inline volume control with a mic mute switch is included along its 1.5m/5ft cable, three windscreens, and a Y-adapter for PC sound cards with discrete microphone and headphone connections.
