Mercedes MBUX equipment will receive an optional Dolby Atmos audio system starting in 2022.
Mercedes intends to equip its cars with the Atmos audio system on all models that use the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system (introduced in the “fresh” S-Class) as the latest interface.
Dolby Atmos will also be coming to the optional Burmester 3D or 4D sound system. According to Mercedes, “…this should be a step up from conventional stereo playback.”
The 4D system includes 31 speakers, six of which create a three-dimensional effect from above. Four more “near” speakers are located on the front seats, and all four seats have two sound converters (exciters).
It turns out 1750 watts of total power (including an 18.5-liter subwoofer). Dolby Atmos will be available in Mercedes-Maybach in the summer of 2022 and will be available in the S-Class shortly thereafter.
