Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T : Too Much Compromise

It is interesting to follow the Redmi Note lineup. It would seem that Xiaomi should rivet the model one after another, in which it is easy to get confused. But it’s actually interesting to see how they experiment with smartphones.

In addition to a very good camera as in the OnePlus 8T, there is a powerful processor from MediaTek of the level of Snapdragon 765. That is, on paper, the power is almost the same as in the Pixel 5.

This is a completely new model and one of the first smartphones of 2021. It was introduced on January 11, 2021.

Design

The Redmi Note 9T is made of plastic: the frame and back wall are made of polycarbonate. In general, it looks rather poor. On the other hand, what we expected.

In this case, the screen is on the rise. It turns out such a layered cake, it looks interesting: Gorilla Glass 5 in front, plastic in the back and plastic in a frame. And also a protective film is included.

The fingerprint scanner is located on the side, in the power key.

In addition, there is a headphone jack.

Well, there are also compromises. In addition to the plastic in the case, there is no moisture protection, and the vibration is usual rattling.

Screen

The smartphone has an IPS display with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Its diagonal is 6.53 inches, and the resolution is 1080 by 2340 pixels with an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9. The pixel density is high – 395 ppi. In general, the display is not bad at a good average level. Perhaps there are questions about brightness – at its peak it is 450 nits.

Processor and hardware

One of the most striking features of the Redmi Note 9T is its heart. It uses the MediaTek Dimensity 800U chipset. It is an eight-core processor with 2 Cortex A76 and 6 A55 cores. It is built on a 7-nanometer process technology. All over the chipset is similar to the Snapdragon 765. Let’s see what it can do.

GeekBench Results

The smartphone passed the throttling test with confidence. And the results in synthetics are really close to the Pixel 5.

Overall, good. But it is necessary that game developers start supporting the graphics of the Mali G57 MC3 and it would be possible to enable the top graphics settings everywhere.

Also, the smartphone has 4 GB of RAM and 64 UFS 2.1 or 128 GB UFS 2.2 of internal memory. It’s nice that there is support for two SIM cards, and there is also a separate slot for a microSD memory card.

Camera

The Redmi Note 9T has a triple camera setup. The set is standard for smartphones in this price range: wide-angle, macro and depth camera. In general, it turns out that only the main camera is interesting, and the other two are here for quantity.

The ultra-wide-angle camera has a Sony IMX586 sensor with a size of 1/2 “and a resolution of 48 megapixels. And this is an interesting module. The same sensor was used as the main camera in many flagships. For example, it can be found in OnePlus 7T Pro, OnePlus 8T, OPPO Reno4, Xiaomi Mi9 Pro and Mi9T Rro, Honor 20, OPPO Reno 10x Zoom and many others. This is one of the most popular matrixes in smartphones.

And you know what? It shoots well and does his job. And in daylight it gives excellent results. I wonder what will happen when the stable Google Camera app appears under the Redmi Note 9T. It will probably only get better.

Software

Redmi Note 9T runs MIUI 12. We know a lot about this custom skin, but how does it work here.

There is a nice animation in the storage settings – the amount of memory is shown using water.

Not without built-in ads. For example, we found it in the Themes app. The app installer also shows ads.

It should be noted that animations in the system sometimes freeze a little.

Battery

Inside is a 5000 mAh battery. And that’s pretty impressive. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra has the same battery capacity.

It supports fast charging with a power of 18 watts. As we said above, it comes bundled and charges the smartphone by 33% in 30 minutes.

As for the life time, the smartphone lasts for 5-6 hours of screen time. That is, this is enough for a day of active smartphone use.

Conclusion

In the end, everything depends on the price. It could have been lower. In reality, the Redmi Note 9T smartphone costs a little more than it looks. And this is a problem for the Redmi line, which is loved and respected precisely for its value for money. At the same time, everything is fine inside, except for a number of compromises, which are, however, expected.
