Future Nokia smartphones will no longer be equipped with ZEISS-branded cameras, as has been the case for the past five years. HMD Global, which produces Nokia devices, has confirmed the end of its partnership with ZEISS. In fact, the relationship between the two companies ended in 2021, but only now HMD Global has officially confirmed this. By the way, the mutual mention of brands has disappeared from the official websites of both companies.
The latest smartphone from HMD Global to bear the ZEISS logo is the Nokia XR20. Both parties do not name the reasons why they did not want to extend the cooperation. In addition, it is not clear whether this was a mutual decision. The camera has never been a key feature of Nokia smartphones run by HMD Global. Nevertheless, the company succeeded in this direction, having launched the very successful Nokia 9 PureView camera phone on the market.
After a long and successful collaboration, ZEISS and HMD Global have decided not to renew their partnership, which included collaboration on ZEISS-branded imaging technologies in Nokia smartphones,” ZEISS said in a statement.
It is worth noting that Nokia has also collaborated with ZEISS in the past. The first phone that both companies collaborated on was the 2005 Nokia N90. The experiment turned out to be so successful that then the Nokia N95, Nokia 808 PureView and a whole series of Nokia Lumia with excellent cameras were born. HMD Global renewed its partnership with ZEISS in 2017 and began using the German company’s optics in the Nokia 8.3 5G and Nokia 9 PureView smartphones.
Now ZEISS optics can be seen in Vivo smartphones, the two companies have been cooperating since 2020. It is possible that the German brand will share its developments with other Android manufacturers in the near future.
