Samsung's 83-inch OLED TV is on its way

According to Korean media reports, Samsung Electronics is preparing to introduce an 83-inch OLED TV with an LG Display panel . The presentation of new items may well happen in September. After lengthy negotiations, LG Display and Samsung Electronics reached an agreement in May 2023 whereby LG Display will supply Samsung Electronics with WOLED panels for use in Samsung TVs. We are talking about several million panels per year.

Business Korea reported that Samsung has completed registration of the 83-inch KQ83SC90A OLED TV with the National Radio Research Institute in South Korea, a certification that is required before the TV can be manufactured and sold. For example, LG and Samsung go through this process every year before introducing new models at CES.

Judging by the model index of the TV, the 83-inch OLED TV will be part of the existing S90C line (SC90A is the Korean name for the S90C TV series). The nuance is that the other models of this line with diagonals of 55, 65 and 77 inches are equipped with QD-OLED panels.

The KQ83SC90A TV will be Samsung’s first 83-inch OLED TV and will increase competition in this market segment. Currently, only LG Display can mass-produce 83-inch OLED panels, and 83-inch OLED TVs are currently only available from LG Electronics and Sony.

Samsung’s 83-inch OLED TV is rumored to be officially unveiled as early as September. Thus, it is very likely that the presentation of the model will take place as part of the European consumer electronics exhibition IFA 2023 in Berlin.
