Samsung Starts Production of Cutting-Edge RGB MicroLED Smart TVs

Samsung is taking a bold step forward in the evolution of home entertainment technology by launching the test production of its new smart TVs featuring cutting-edge RGB MicroLED screens. First unveiled at CES 2025, this innovative display technology has generated significant buzz in the industry, and Samsung now appears ready to bring it closer to consumers.

The RGB MicroLED technology represents a significant advancement in display performance. Unlike traditional LED or even MiniLED panels, which rely heavily on backlighting systems, RGB MicroLED incorporates self-emissive pixels composed of red, green, and blue microscopic LEDs. Although Samsung’s version of MicroLED still utilizes a form of backlight, the company claims this hybrid approach allows for significantly better color reproduction, deeper contrast, and enhanced brightness compared to conventional MiniLED displays.

However, this revolutionary display won’t be widely accessible right away. In its initial phase, Samsung plans to release only a single model — an enormous 115-inch TV designed for ultra-premium home theater setups. Due to its sheer size and the complexity of the manufacturing process involved in MicroLED technology, the new TV is expected to come with a hefty price tag.

While Samsung has not yet revealed official pricing details, early market comparisons suggest that the cost will be substantial. For instance, Chinese electronics giant Hisense recently announced plans to sell its own 116-inch RGB MiniLED TV for 100,000 yuan, which translates to roughly $14,000 USD. Given Samsung’s reputation for high-end innovation and premium pricing, industry analysts speculate that the MicroLED model could match or exceed this figure.

Despite the exclusivity and high cost, the introduction of RGB MicroLED marks a significant milestone for Samsung and the television industry as a whole. As production methods improve and economies of scale take effect, there’s potential for MicroLED technology to eventually reach more affordable price points and broader consumer adoption.

For now, Samsung’s RGB MicroLED TV remains a luxury item aimed at early adopters and tech enthusiasts who want to be at the forefront of display technology. As the company continues to refine the technology, the industry will be watching closely to see how it performs in real-world settings — and how soon it might become mainstream.
