LG QNED Evo: A TV worth checking out in 2025

LG QNED Evo 2025

LG is committed to enhancing its QNED LCD TV offerings. While LG OLED TVs have garnered a loyal following among audio-visual and home theater aficionados for over ten years, LG’s LCD TVs, particularly the Nanocell models, have not received the same level of enthusiasm from enthusiasts, despite their decent proprietary color rendering technology.

This disparity can be attributed to LG’s preference for contrast-limited IPS LCD panel technology over the VA alternative, with only a few QNED91 screen sizes in 2023 deviating from this trend. However, in late 2024, LG announced its intention to elevate the perception of its LCD TVs among AV fans.

During this period, LG introduced the QNED Evo, a new premium series. The technology behind these televisions is centered on three innovative features. Firstly, LG plans to implement its proprietary wide color gamut technology. Secondly, these TVs will support the wireless reception of high-resolution images at high frame rates.

The new Alpha 8 AI processor in the Evo QNED TVs is said to improve the impact of AI on picture and sound quality by more than 70% compared to its predecessor.

Lastly, they will feature advanced picture and sound processing powered by enhanced Artificial Intelligence. Delving deeper into the advantages of the QNED Evo, the improved color gamut across the entire 2025 lineup is made possible by the new Dynamic QNED Color Solution.

This technology enables the backlight to emit pure colors rather than filtering them through quantum dots, as seen in traditional LG QNED TVs. LG asserts that the Dynamic QNED Color Solution has received certification from the independent testing organization Intertek for achieving 100% color volume, ensuring that the new technology can reproduce the original image colors without any distortion.

LG QNED 9M

The new QNED 9M Evo series will incorporate “True Wireless 4K” technology, a feature first unveiled in LG’s high-end 2024 M OLED Evo series. This innovative system enables cable-free video transmission at resolutions reaching 4K and refresh rates of up to 144Hz, ensuring that data transfer occurs without any degradation in image quality or noticeable lag.

Additionally, the system has received certification for AMD FreeSync Premium. The Zero Connect Box, responsible for this wireless video transmission, is designed to maintain stable signal transmission over extended distances. As a result, consumers can enjoy a clutter-free setup, eliminating the need for multiple cables and allowing source devices to be positioned further away from the television.

Alpha 8 AI Processor

The latest Alpha 8 AI processor integrated into the Evo QNED TVs reportedly enhances the influence of AI on both picture and sound quality by over 70% compared to the previous model. This processor also offers superior upscaling capabilities and interprets the filmmaker’s intent to more effectively manage image noise and render faces, objects, text, and backgrounds in a more natural manner.

The Dynamic Tone Mapping system, which optimizes the display of HDR10 content on QNED Evo TVs, has also shown improvements in accuracy by analyzing the image in significantly smaller segments for localized adjustments. LG emphasizes that the advancements in picture processing are particularly beneficial for large screen formats.

The surge in popularity of large screens has been notable over the past year. On the audio front, the new AI system in QNED Evo TVs can convert two-channel audio into virtual 9.1.2 surround sound mixes and isolate vocals from background noise, enhancing dialogue clarity.

New AI capabilities

The QNED Evo TVs will feature several significant innovations from LG, including the newly designed AI Magic Remote, which now incorporates an AI Button. This button provides quick access to content specifically curated for the current user profile of the TV.

Enhancements in AI personalization are further supported by Voice ID technology, which can recognize the user by their voice and automatically switch to their personalized content and settings. The Generative AI Gallery allows users to create custom images by inputting a few key parameters, along with adjustable picture and sound modes.

These modes can be tailored to meet the preferences of various family members. A simple press of the AI button leads users to relevant keywords and TV functionalities. In regions that support advanced language models, such as the USA and South Korea, a prolonged press of the AI button facilitates personalized searches based on detailed queries.

For instance, as illustrated in LG’s press release regarding the QNED Evo TVs, a user could request, “Recommend movies to watch on my trip to Paris,” and the AI would comprehend the nuanced context of the request, providing suggestions for films set in the French capital.

LG has not yet disclosed comprehensive details regarding the screen sizes and specific series that will comprise the new QNED Evo segment of its 2025 TV lineup. It remains uncertain whether the initial introduction of VA panels in 2024 will be continued or expanded for the 2025 QNED Evo models. However, the press release indicates that the lineup will feature sizes ranging from 40 to 100 inches.
